Yes, used PBSetup – much easier than the BFV remedy

Looks a bit cartoony for my liking 😉

C’mon max get your PC sorted m8. Me and Badger are getting tired of winning medals all the time.

    Disabling the Intro Movies

The introductory movies to BF2, although fun to watch the first couple of times, fast become quite annoying, adding to the startup times for the game, as well as the memory usage (the main movie is 135MB in size). To disable them permanently, I don’t recommend deleting the movie files – this may cause problems with verification of client information on certain servers and/or with Punkbuster.

Instead, simply rename the relevant files in your Program FilesEA GamesBattlefield 2modsbf2Movies directory to something else (e.g. rename the Intro.bik to Intro.backup). The files to rename are: Dice.bik, EA.bik, Intro.bik, Legal.bik and Welcome.bik. This will mean the intro movies are all skipped as BF2 starts to load. If you find the movies playing in the background of the Login screen and Settings screens annoying, you can also rename the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik to something else as well.

If you’ve also renamed/removed the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik movies, and don’t want a dull grey background in the in-game menus, then download this small BF2 Menu Movies .zip file, and extract the contents to your Movies directory. These small files (100KB each) show the BF2 logo in the background, and look much nicer. Thanks to EdisLeado for preparing and hosting this file.

Removing all the original movies from the game can save over 250MB of data being loaded up during the start of the game and being placed into memory – this will help smooth your gameplay particularly for those with less RAM. If for any reason you experience any problems with the game after renaming the movies, simply rename them back to their original names.

Update: Instead of the above, you can simply use the +restart command line command in your BF2 startup icon. See the Advanced Tweaking section.

What is it with students and fooking flip-flops?? They’ll be carrying man-bags next. When I was a lad you bought yourself a pair of DMs and that sorted you until they fell to bits. Pah, flip-flops indeed.

Reinstalling the entire game is probably the next step tbh. Here’s what i’d do….

Uninstall it, making sure you whack your bf2 graphics cache while you’re at it.. (if it hasn’t already been removed by the uninstall process)

    Documents and Settings[username]My DocumentsBattlefield 2modsbf2cache (i think)

Delete the folders in there, then run a defrag to tidy up your disk.

Reinstall everything, run another defrag, then create a local game so the graphics optimization process runs populating the cache directory again. Run a final defrag.

Try and join an online game.

Crashing shortly after joining a server is a classic punkbuster problem. Probably means PB is out of date on your system and for some reason it can’t update automatically. Go to

    http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

follow the instructions and download pbsetup.exe to do a manual update.

btw – you may need to run it a couple of times before it works!

Cant we put up some server messages or something telling people they should get the boosters… its fucking annoying having bought them, and not being able to use them on our own server!

Whats the current rotation back too, I’ve only managed to get 10-20 mins of the usuall Karki before the server crashes and starts with karki again (I’m sure Max has a hand in that somewhere 😉 )

The same problem is affecting all servers – its a 1.3 bug though I didn’t think ours was as badly hit as say the 256 server which seems to crash every couple of maps. I guess if its going to crash regularly it might as well go back to Karky.

    BattleField 2 – v1.3 crash issue update
    Jun 20 2006 19:17:47 by Killing
I’m sure all BF2 players are aware of the bugs introduced by the v1.3 patch.
Since the plan for the next patch, detailed on the recent community update, indicates that any resolution to this is still some way off we have been considering our options over the past few days. The result of this is that, although not Officially authorised by EA / Dice, we now feel its the least we can do to enable you our valid customers to choose which version of BF2 server you want to run.

So until the crash issues are resolved you will be able to run v1.22 if you choose.

Note: Not all mods / maps are compatible with v1.22 e.g. all Armored Fury maps require v1.3, please keep that in mind if you have any issues starting your server with the v1.22 addon selected.
