Having just spent three weeks in an NHS prepping office, with a 60 year old woman trying to have her wicked way with me… coming out with things such as “I want you to go to M&S and buy me some panties and suspenders”… “I’ve got my eye on you”… “I’ve made my cake nice and moist for you”… “I’ve got my knickers inside out”… etc etc, I can agree with you here… If it was a 60 year old man saying it to a 25 year old gorgeously attractive (Like me!) lady (errr unlike me!), then people would probably throw up more of a fuss. (think i might go and blow up Charing Cross Hospital ;))
I only form my own opinion through thinking how I would like it if I was in the position in question, so I kind of understand how these young, misguided, and easily manipulated young muslims turn to such extreme and horrific measures.

By no means am I saying that the searching of young muslims turns them in to suicide bombers. What I am trying to say is that a build up of disciminatory factors over time, aimed at a specific group, can cause a disgruntled community. Whilst you did not turn in to a knob at school, if you had carried on being blamed for things you had not done through life, whilst others around you were let off (the girls perhaps), then I can imaging a level of bitterness welling up in side you.
Personally I believe more of an effort should be made to incorporate some of these minority sub communities in to society… but that is easier said than done.
..However, don’t be swayed by people’s victim mentality, especially when so many of these stop and search ‘victims’ supported the tube bombings in this country. If they disagree with the terrorists so much, then why aren’t they making their voices heard in protests about it? They were happy to protest about dodgy cartoons, but when it comes to mass murdering suicide bombers it all goes a bit quiet.
I wont be swayed by victim mentality if you promise not to believe everything you read in the papers… media hype can turn any story back on to itself… good news doesnt sell so well, so the papers are more likly to print stories regarding the more fundamental muslims… I would be extremely surprised if the majority of “stop and search” victims of the muslim community supported the bombings.
The bottom line is: In my honest opinion, the discrimination of Muslims (or any minority group) in any shape or form can be a driving force towards extremism – thus exagerating the problem. I firmly believe this, so therefor believe that targetting your muslims/asians over everyone else is highy counter productive. Like most things, I believe that people do things for a reason… and feel that if the base of the problem is solved, the whole problem will reduce…

I was a little drunk when I wrote it, so probably could have been clearer I was just putting it in simple simple terms… One of my mates recently came out with “The majority of non-whites drain the state”… I didnt speak to him for a week!

Just send everyone to sleep, and search all those who dont want to be… This can be paid for with the extra revenue made from stacking up the passengers – and fitting more in!

But the same has happend in society with black males, and the police (err not the band!)… whilst I admit that a siginificant preportion of crimes are commiteed by young black males, the over seraching of innocent people has led to an anti police culture, which doesnt solve anything.
Would a white hippy, who is arriving in the UK from Amsterdam be a reasonable candidate for a drugs search? I’m pretty sure people get pissed off at that, but does political correctness inhibit a search there?
Im not entirely sure that this is a great comparrison. The very nature of a hippy is that they are prone to taking drugs, and would be in Amsterdam for that reason. Does that mean that most Muslims between the ages of 17 to 40 are suicide bombers?
Just after september 11th a young muslim was taken off a plane for terroris reasons… I can’t remember how old he was, but I believe it was under 5… and then the extremely fundermentalist muslim Yusuf Islam was searched for the same reason… or for singing “father and son” to loud…
I think it is a very delicate subject, and only/predominatly searching people of a certain appearence has been proven in the past to be highly unporoductive, and alternative methods have to be thought up. Why?? It’s just an email. peeps forward emails without really reading and digesting the content. So what, In this thread makes your blood boil?
Its the email that annoys me, and not you! Im sorry if I didnt make that clear – I did read the bit where you said the views werent your own!
Personally I hate recieving emails like that… or anything where someone elses opinion is forced on you… If you get down to the nitty gritty bits of the email, it could be interpretted as:
Muslims: bad
White people: goodPersonally I believe that small things like this can fuel peoples discontent with the muslim population, which in turn widens the cultural gap, which in turn leads to discrimination/segregation of young muslims, which in turn can (in some cases – imho) lead to the atocities we hear about today… minotiry groups (whether they are black/white/male/female/one legged/3 legged or whatever) tend to stick together… and if the minority group is one that hates the way they are treated within society, big problems can arise.
Emails like this certainly dont solve anything. The people who already believe what the email says will nod their heads in agreement whilst reading it (errr so nothings gained), where as they just piss off the people who dont believe in whats written… so there is no point!
That is why it makes my bloody boil!
