Got a mate who’s thinking about getting a console and for the life of me I’m finding it extremely difficult to recommend he get a 360.
Can anyone with a PS3 tell me about it? Yes!
Is it quieter than the 360? I assume it must be, the only way you could make a 360 noisier would be to put a bastard outboard motor on it, but I’d like to know. I have not heard an Xbox, but I presums so. I have only heard my fan a couple of times, and that was during the summer after prolonged use
Can you install games to a hard drive on the PS3? Yes – from the PS3 store. I have that BF 1943 game on it…
Is there any kind of region coding on games/DVD player on the PS3? (Is there on the 360??). Not a clue – I buy my games from the UK… its a Blue Ray player btw (which also upscales DVDs)
Given that the whole PS3 online thing is free, are you stuck on some sort of PS3 network equivalent to the utterly pointless Xbox Live (ooh look, I can buy a new hat for my avatar for 10 quid, that’s amazing! – Fuck off) or can you somehow get onto the internet? Not sure what you mean here, but the Net and store are completely seperate. Internet works like the internet usually works… and you can connect bluetooth keyboard/mouse so you dont have to fuck about with the controller. PS3 store sells avatar hats for a tenner (along with a HUGE amount of other stuff – games, demos, previews, videos etc)… you can also rent or buy movies from it. Iplayer has been intergrated, and you can turn the whole system in to a freeview recorder which is ace!
Most importantly, can you play avi’s/wmv’s etc on the PS3 without having to convert them to DVD format? (This is the one useful function on my Xbox). Ofcourse. You can also stream movies to it over a wireless network. Azureus is awesome for this – download over bit torrent, drag in to PS3 bit, and it magically pops up on the media server. You can also play from USB Key or recorded DVD.
HOWEVER! The be all and end all is what his mates play on… most of mine have PS3’s so I am happy with it, however, most of XDC have Xbox’s, so may end up getting one of those to get back in to competitive game play…
Bigger is not alway better! I prefer small teams on MW2, but then the maps are smaller… hmmm

Got ill in November and was out of action of a month, then it got to cold, so pussy’d out for a further 2.5 months… contemplating going on Monday… Ugh!
Think my flatmate was downloading porn! Net was v slow that night. Just signed up for O2 20mb broadband so will hopefully have a better connection in future…
