KeymasterOddly enough I wasn’t having a go at Rooney, just that him looking like a cartoon character made my point quite neatly. Each to their own indeed, but when people around here say there’s been a lack of games worth playing the last few years on the PC, it’s irritating to see trivial criticisms, such as a games style of graphics, allowed to fester. The truth is that XDC are mostly BF players, and there’s little variation in the style of play between BF games and games such as RO, COD, CSS, RS etc, which makes the learning curve for TF2 a problem for people who’re not as used to weapon types and jumpy twitchy skill sets of games like Quake, UT, TFC, and Jedi Knight (mentioning JK because that’s where I learned to use the rocket launcher of TF2). It’s a shame because the twichiness most of us hate in Quake is much more measured in TF2, the teamplay element is as strong as any game we’ve ever enjoyed, and the competitive side of TF2 is unparalleled because of the games balance. Anyway whether it’s a case of old dogs having a problem with new tricks, an inability to see the games potential, or whatever, it doesn’t matter because that boat has sailed, and lesson has been learned.
I prefer Red Orchestra which has similar gameplay to TF2 but a much harder learning curve which is why many on here dont like it, the gameplay is superb though
As you may have guessed by what I’ve said already, I can’t let this one go…but hey arguments are healthy 🙂 RO and TF2 are miles apart in terms of gameplay! Think of TF2 as quake, except instead of picking up weapons, you choose classes, and the classes add further variation with their own stats and special abilities. The action in TF2 runs at a pace closer to BF2 than quake, but the gameplay is more geared towards pressing an oppponent or pushing back against a relentless assault, in a style not too disimilar to Rugby or American Football. RO is about patience, accuracy, and squad tactics, but the learning curve is not that steep if you’ve played any of BF2/2142, CS, or any rainbow 6 title. Patience is the problem most people have with it.

KeymasterInteresting seeing how it varies through the day. I was B+ this afternoon while using remote desktop which probably affected the result, but went down to a C+ in the evening around 8pm, before recovering to an A just now.

KeymasterI’ve had a few weeks to make my mind up about this now that I’ve bought the game and generally I agree with Fluffy’s sentiments. It’s difficult for me to be too critical as I’ve not had enough mulitplayer games yet, but that’s a criticism itself as it’s due to the game being very difficult to get into online. I want to play these games with people I know, and without the dickheads you get in random crowds of gaming nerds, and MW2 just makes this too difficult. I still haven’t found a way to easily join friends online, and this generally kills any desire I may have for a game. It’s ok if you’ve a group together and start a server together, but god help you if someone arrives late and wants to join. In this respect it’s actually worse than stepping back 10 years in terms of multiplayer gaming, and that’s ridiculous.
The single player game is very short but it is good, and the special ops coop mode is fun to play with a friend, and I feel like I’ve got about as much out of spec ops as I did from the single player (perhaps more). I’ve had the game I suppose nearly a month now, and while I don’t think I’ve got my money’s worth from it yet, I expect over time I will do. One thing I would say though is that it most definitely is not worth £40 on the PC, and I’m glad I got it cheaper from Tesco. It’s also no wonder EA are sounding so confident over BC2, as it will become the game to have on the PC, with MW2 offering little competition.

KeymasterYea that’s a good price for it atm, and yes it’s worth getting at that price. There are games of it every night involving someone from XDC, and plenty of rats play it too. For me I wouldn’t really consider it a show piece PC game, but it is highly enjoyable and you will get your money’s worth out of it at that price.
It is also the perfect game for late night drunken laughs.

Keymastertoo cartoony for my liking
Ridiculous statement.

Doesn’t stop you admiring how well he plays.

KeymasterIt’s just for TF2, which has been XDC’s biggest mistake in not captialising on. 33 divisions currently exist in the European League 😯

KeymasterDON’T PANIC (imagine in big friendly letters)
I’m putting in some apps for other clans and you may see me on steam with no tags or wearing some random ones, but I’m not leaving XDC. Just thought I’d post given my initial comments here, as this was basically the way I was intending on going if no improvement in things here. Things are looking up for us but I really want to get into the competitive scene in TF2, and an XDC team is just too difficult to get going. Dunno yet who’ll take me yet, but I hope it’ll be one of the ETF2L teams and hopefully along the way I’ll make some good contacts and gain the experience we need for a team of our own one day.
Anyway, don’t worry about seeing me wearing other colours.

KeymasterOnly thing is I have it set to a level were you dont all have to listen to various unpleasant sounds coming from me as per Matts description of you Paddy!
That’s right Paddy, the sound of Doc strumming away on his guitar from slightly too close to his computer on Saturday night, was much more pleasant than the usual sound of your munchies, including his singing 😀

Does this mean you’ve switched over from voice activation? I don’t know how we’re going to cope without the sound of each and every crisp munching away in the background (particularly when the joints have kicked in), the heavy breathing, or domestic arguments.
It’s a sad day 🙁

KeymasterUnless your push to talk key in game is the same as the one you use for TS, the people on TS will not hear you, though it’s easy to confuse where the voice is coming from and your team may reply through TS 🙂
The exception to this is if All talk is on as a server option (as used to be the case on the Rats server for example), and this makes coordinating your team very difficult. Normally it will only be used on lighthearted servers where people are just having a laugh, but it can still be very frustrating when you actually want to play the game a bit, you’re losing, and all your team needs is a bit of coordination. This does my head in on some servers in TF2.
One solution is to setup a group whisper on TS, but this takes a minute or two, especially if you need to teach people how to do it.

KeymasterI clearly saw the chopper on the right of the stadium (looking from the stage.)
Ahh well that’s good to know, the game must alternate where it picks you up from.

Keymaster😆 that’s brilliant with the taunting
Also, we could get a versus against oHp going if we can all stay up past midnight (they are American so they ten to be on after midnight, I usually go to bed at about 3 so it’s no problem for me (the beauty of being self employed and not working before 11 am!)
No problem over the weekend I’m sure, just let the rest of us know when they’re free for a game, and we’ll see what we have. How many of us have this now anyway? By my reckoning there’s, my brother, Wolf, Doc, SOIA, Wizzy, and Voo.
edit: It’s a good laugh Max, and a nice change of pace from time to time. I like a game of it a couple of times per week, and at the weekends when the rats play versus, but that may change as more xdc get it, and as I keep finding reasons to like it more than L4D1.

KeymasterI might have made it as well actually had it not been for the poor volume I was getting from TS. I hestitated too long wondering if those were cries of Help I was hearing or whether you were all telling me to run like fuck 🙂

KeymasterI’d be up for it, but money’s a bit tight. There was talk of a meet in Edinburgh around the end of the summer which never materialised, but I would still be interested in one there, since it’s just out my front door 🙂
