    R14 emergency patch

    we have been instructed to roll out R14 straight away to fix the missing content bug.

    its being pushed now and should complete in the next 2 hours as its quite small.

    That this is happening while origin is royally fucked, we sort of hope this will fix things.

    Ok so I’ve set Karki only maps on the server including all variations except for rush. There are two rounds set on the conquest large versions and the conquest assault versions. I’ve set 1 round on the small versions for now because I think they’re inferior to the larger versions, however I’ve left them in place so we all get a chance to form our own opinions.

    The server died a death early this evening after an issue with team balance again, so I’ve attempted to install the procon true balancer for bf3, though I’m not sure if it’s working right yet.

    There’s a carrier on Gulf of Oman just off shore which has been positioned nicely so that the AA’s field of view can only cover one point on the map itself, however we tested this earlier and it’s also out of range 🙂 I suspect the same will be true of the AA on Wake.

    There’s an issue that has already been reported to DICE that the ticket bleed on Karkand begins when waiting for the round to start.

    The R12 patch is rolling out now, it is a large patch so may take some time to do all the servers, I will send another message out when patching is complete.

    Changelog

    * General crashfixes

    * Fixed problem where kits would remain on the level for a long time (>10 minutes); this would eventually make the server keel over

    * The Back to Karkand maps are included

    Notice that there are two variations on the Conquest gamemode (ConquestSmall0, ConquestSmall1). The differences are mainly to do with the flags. You will see a “#2” after the map name for a server that runs the second Conquest variation.

    Game servers can mix and match B2K and non-B2K maps. Players who have not purchased B2K will be warned if they attempt to join a server with B2K maps in the rotation. Quickmatch will not send those players to servers with B2K maps in the rotation either. The guiding principle here is: if possible, avoid having people get kicked from servers.

    You want to change the server to the new maps for a week?

    Can certainly do it tomorrow and then maybe play by ear? It’s only 4 maps, and 4 maps most of us have really played to death already in BF2 🙂

    Out of interest Max, do you use the Reflex RDS with the M16? i.e. the only RDS in game that I’ve found has an obtrusive iron sight mixed in with it?

    Unlucky Max, but at least when you do take some time off yourself you’ll be more likely to spend quality time with the Mrs than you would if you were off this week 😀

    Guided Rockets will now only track ground targets, as originally intended.
    This include the tank shell? Or is it just a heil/plane thing?

    I assumed that was a heli thing, as Ron was talking the other week about guided rockets and heli’s in the same sentence. I’d hope it wasn’t guided shells as they act as AA of last resort

    Slightly increased the speed at which a player can shoot again after sprinting.

    During one of those podcasts which Max posted a while back there was a game designer on from Dice who was being interviewed, and he pointed out that a lot of the tweaks were in the region of a couple of percent here and there. When I see the patch notes include the word “slightly”, I normally think back to that interview.

    It’s not a bad thing though, unless your preferred method of play is to walk around everywhere or lie in a corner permanently.

    Lets face it, these games always take about 9 months to stabilise and by then, those that are still hanging on will be about 30quid down by succumbing to the latest map packs such as Euro-Disney Wasteland or Attack on EA HQ.
    I though, would actually welcome an official mod if it was like the special forces one in bf2.
    Grappling hooks anyone?

    If they give us content like the vietnam expansion on BC2, then I’ll happily part with the cash…I wonder if they’re thinking about a 1942 style expansion?
