    Docs top interview tip..

Anxiety symptoms pre interview are ALWAYS associated with mild hyperventilation… you dont even know you are doing it.

Whilst you are waiting to be called in clear your mind and think about your breathing… 4 seconds in… 4 seconds out…. 4 seconds in…. 4 seconds out.

Watch in amazement as your racing pulse slows down (usually within half a minute.)

As you talk to the interviewer consciously take time out to breath before answering… nice and slow.

    Good luck m8.

Sirens of titan eh? I loved slaughterhouse 5, so will definately get that next time i do an amazon order SOIA.

I must say I went right off sci-fi/fantasy after my teenage years – but do like to dip into what i would call the higher end of the market (Arthur C Clarke, Ian M Banks etc) occasionally.

The best written sci-fi in my opinion has always been Dune and its first few sequels. Frank Herbert brings his worlds to life in a way that hasn’t been equalled since to my mind.

Neuromancer by William Gibson is also up there for literary merit as well as some bloody prescient plot ideas.

This stuff is all bread and butter for me – honestly get that girl down to a sympathetic GP – we can help you know!

Self hypnosis is useful – but only really as relaxation, that can be helpful – but it sounds like she needs more. I have dabbled in hypnosis before and have yet to see any fantastic evidence for its efficacy in a clinical setting.

NLP as WET said is very interesting – but its also quite complex, and a lot of NLP teaching rapidly vanishes up its own arse. I think it is more helpful for people who want to examine their thought processes and communication skills in particular rather than a useful therapy for the ill (Derrin Brown strangely enough has written the best review of the pitfalls of NLP I have ever read in his book ‘Tricks of the mind’ if anyone is interested.)

CBT is the way forward – its relatively straight forward, can be self taught and as i said earlier has medical papers testifying to its efficacy compared to antidepressants for example. In an ideal world you would go for a formal course of treatment with a psychologist trained in CBT – but the waiting lists on the NHS are usually well over a year… and it would cost a fortune privately.

Good luck whatever you guys do… she is lucky to have such a supporting partner I reckon.

Families… cant live with em.. cant kill em.

Psychoanalysis is not all its cracked up to be… but you wouldnt go far wrong in getting Nathalie a book on cognitive behavioural therapy off amazon and letting her work through it. Its a very practical form of psychology which has been experimentally verified as being effective.

Dont discount using antidepressant medication either – there shouldnt be any stigma attached to taking these pills nowadays and they can really turn things around for people.

At the end of the day it will do more harm than good to totally alienate herself from her family… she just needs the tools to be able to see them for what they are (manipulative, deeply disturbed individuals) and not let them use her as an emotional punchbacg.

bah insane. once you have seen one hardcore gynaecological shot you have seen them all.

there is however something strangely appealing about going round your local tescos whipping the pants off any nice young ladies you fancy without being arrested…. or is that just me?

    sometimes less is more!

Pah. What is the point of these fancy watches? They dont work any better than cheap crap. The vast majority of their price is related to the dubious cachet of having an overpriced label on your arm.

Its just marketing bullshit. I can afford a good watch, but Id rather spend the cash on something useful.

Turks buy the dell monitor, will last for years and is very good for watching DVDs on.

    Alternatively buy this…

Big board for big guys, but progressive enough to allow you to move on with your surfing.

Once you surf off some of your flab you will be leaner, fitter and have less chance of being bonkless for 15 months at a time as you will be a fit surf dude… and that my friend is priiceless.

Yup – fantastic book. Amazing how he gets into the kids skull – it actually totally changed the way I look at Autistic/aspergers patients.

He has a new book out – anyone read it?
