guys, need some (serious) help here:

Looking for a mobo/cpu/vid card/psu/case combo that is QUITE and will allow me to run the games as it should, not like my 5 year old current rig

Any pointers would be appreciated, all other shite like HD’s, optical and sound I can sort out myself

    Thanks

cpu wise the intels have got the quad cores out, but there serious cash, there current duel cores are much better gaming wise than AMDS, however, AMD are starting to catch up and are quite low in price in comparios, so maybe something along the lines of a AMD CPU AM2 Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+, runs at 3ghz but can easily be overclocked if nessecary and u cant go far wrong with AMD, Video cards – the new GTX’s are good, im ordering up a BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB, its about 350 quid, but there shit hot – if your looking for something a little less expensive then the BFG GeForce 7950 GT is excellent, i use it at the mo – handles CoH, BF2142 etc with ease and comes in a Sli Version. As for motherboard, im not entirely sure whats fantastic atm – currently iv got a gigabyte motherboard, found it to be fantastic, comes SLI READY, which il be hoping to do at some stage, so just have a look around, you can pick up a good motherboard for around 80 – 110 quid, case wise id say the Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case – its extremely cool, has HD fans at front, one at back and a large 200mm one based at the top, all fans are adjustable, iv set mine all to high – which means it is relatively noisey – nothing extreme, but u can set these all down to low or medium, so its much quiter, the case also has two rubber sockets at the back if you wish to use water cooling at any point, which would obviously cut down the DB, PSU’s – TAGAN and OCZ do awesome powersupplied, silent and plenty of power – if your setup is quite demanding, id say go for something around the 700 watt, anyway, hope some of that helps.

ALso PoD im selling my 4200+ AM2 Duel core Processor for like 30 quid, so if ur interested let me no, 🙂

I’d go with Intel and the Freezer 7 pro is a good cooler. It will be a nice little system and even make Verdun look nice to you 😉

and how about Nvidia of ATI
I must be old-fashioned still going with AMD and ATI

Yep, I’m behind the times too, I have a AMD x2 3800+ and Ati 1950 Pro, but would love to go the Intel Core 2 Duo router with a 768 mb Nvidia 8800 GTX.
Intel and Nvidia FTW at the moment

Intel have led the way for a good 12 months now and have a 33% increase in gaming over AMD.If you was getting a core2duo then i would get the E6600 or E6700.If you have more money then i would get the Q6600 to futureproof yourself. As for graffix iwould go Nvidia and get the GTX not the Ultra as for the extra money it will cost you its not that big of a performance boost. And mainboard i would never buy another brand than Asus and the Striker Extreme ROCKS!!!!.I have the Antec nine hundred as does Madmax, its a really nice case and VERY quiet, everything else looks good to go mate.

Intel C2D E6750 and E6850 puppies run at 1333 FSB clock on ! 4Ghz attainable with a bit of water cooling luvin and 3.7 on air is poss too. No point in wasting money on Quad core just yet, especially not for games.)
8800 GTX OC/OC2 (BFG if you can for lifetime warranty)
Decent quality 2GB RAM PC8000+ (to handle 1333 FSB and clocking of C2D)
ASUS Commando or a nice Striker extreme motherboard its got lights !!! (needs BIOS update to support 1333mhz FSB)
Seagate Bararcuda 7200.10 (perpendicular storage ftw!!!)

Strictly speaking the FSB1333 isn’t madly important for most things, it’s come about to handle the higher bus demands with quad cores but if you went for this sort of setup you could Quad core it up later when games use them properly, for stoopid physics etc (and they should be cheaper) . When they do that it could be a pretty tidy boost to your system without touching anything else.

    just my $0.02 🙂
