Ok here’s some info for the Saturday 24th Birthday Bash with Planetside 2

    Downloading the Client (9GB Download)
Recommend everyone does this even if you don’t have an account

    You Have 2 Choices

    Steam Instructions
(This is best idea for people who don’t have any sort of SOE Account)

Just Download the game like any other Steam Game
(If you get errors trying to download, restart steam)

    Website Instructions

    Goto http://www.planetside2.com/
Log into your Account via the very top menu bar on that page
Once logged in then click the the big “Play Free” button
That should download the PS2_Setup.exe file and then run that to install.

    Account Creation

If you already have a SOE account (you will if you were in the Beta or have played any other SOE Game) I think your free to just log in with that account and play.
If you don’t have an account I’m not sure which is best, making a SOE account or making one from the Planetside 2 EU website (At time of posting I get 500 bad gateway errors trying to access site). Need to wait till my download has finished and see what happens since I have the Alpha Squad pack and SOE Account. Need to find out if I still ok with EU servers etc.

Edit: Create your account on the EU website since the US one doesn’t let you select any EU country’s as your residence

    Character Creation Info

Please DON’T Add Hussars Tag to your name, the Outfit system built into the game does that for you, just use your normal on-line name.

Also the character creator doesn’t allow you to put “special” characters, including things like _ – { [ etc. Blacky managed to get his Blackadder name by adding UK to end of his name in upper-case, this maybe a good idea for people trying to get their names. So if your struggling to get your usual on-line name in-game then add your country abbreviation to the end of it and see how that goes.

    Server Info

    EU Server Name: Woodman
    Faction: New Conglomerate

    Account Creation

Ok I managed to get to the Account creation on the US website and the first part of it is putting in your Date of Birth and your country, unfortunately it doesn’t list any EU country there at all (not that I could see) so it looks like you need to make an account on the http://www.planetside2.eu/

    Outfit

Blackadder has created the 1st Hussars outfit so hopefully catch either me or him before Saturday and we should be able to add you, if not we’ll just do it on Saturday night during the bash

    Steam Version

There’s a slight problem with the Steam version of Planetside 2 and the fact its giving the EU players the US version of the launchpad which won’t let you log-in if you’ve made an account on the Planetside2.eu website (which EU players have to do)

NOTE: If you have a Sony Station account you don’t need to do this (ie if you’ve been in beta or had a subscription to any of the old games they’ve done)

If you have an EU account then you need to do the following below

    Murphy has tested and works

This is now working! At least for me.

Locate your PS2 directory (probably located in SteamsteamappscommonPlanetSide 2), edit LaunchPad.ini and add the following line at the end:

    environment=psg

Then launch the game from Steam and it should let you log in properly

And Arma2 is the same :p

The game’s been out for couple weeks in Germany and its plagued with bugs that needed patching straight away, don’t get me wrong I’ve been a big fan of Flashpoint and then Arma1 (flashpoint 1.5 tbh) I’ve not had that higher hopes for Arma2, they couldn’t even fix silly little bugs in Arma that we’re in Flashpoint, raining indoors anyone?

I’ll probably end up getting Arma2 but I’ll wait till Flashpoint2 is out and see which is worth while, though I’ve been leaning towards Flashpoint 2 for a while now.

But i’m pretty much Xboxing/Wii and PCing alot now so i’m switching between them all :p

hehe well this’ll be a shock to you all, i’m actually training myself up so i can join the RAF and go in as a Gound Support crew, more than likely be Avionics 🙂

As for my gaming, atm i’m kinda on and off with the Xbox360 (King Penguin UK is my Xbox Name) but i’m mainly playing CoH when i’m in my RTS mood, though at the moment lot of hussars are playing Armed Assault running the Evolution Map which is good fun. Also got Rummy’s GTL League going too.

I have masses of games but never seem to get around to playing them all :p

I have this and i’m impressed, not try the co-op SP campaign yet, only played a little SP campaign on my own.

Multiplayer is fun from what i tried and looks like it could be great fun especially if you get 4 mates on the same team 🙂

Tip for you people getting a BS, don’t fly it striaght away or chances are you’ll lose it pretty fast, it takes a while for you to get the skills to fly one with proper skill.

Here’s a nice list that will help you in what ever ship you fly.

    Electronics 5
    Engineering 5
    Energy Systems Operation 5
    Energy Management 5
Energy Grid upgrades 4/5 (depending if you need to fit an rcu/pdu)
Controlled Bursts 5 (only needed for gallente and amarr ships)
    Motion Prediction 5
    Rapid Firing 5
Surgical Strike 4 (though it should be to 5)
    Sharpshooter 5
Trajectory Analysis 4 (5 is a waste of time, though it might come in handy if your using artillery)
    Weapon Upgrades 5
    Advanced Weapon Upgrades 4
    Heavy Assault Ships 4
Whichever Medium Turret Specialization to 4

Thats a list based on HAC’s but 90% of those skills there will help you in any ship you fly

Pretty much building a PC is fairly easy, since 95% of the components will only go in one way (due to how all the slots are done, ie agp card will only go in an AGP slot so you couldn’t accidently put it in a PCI slot)

Yes it can be alot cheaper than buying from places like alienware/dell etc but lately the prices on pre-built compared to self built have closed together some what over the last few years.

Personally i tend to buy most my stuff from http://www.overclockers.co.uk since its pretty local for me so i can pick the parts up myself, there prices arn’t too bad you can sometimes find cheaper else where but means you gotta search and have things shipped from different places.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Full_Systems.html

If you look at there full systems there not too badly priced and honestly i think if you self built the bits you’d prolly only save %10 which normally there cost for building it for you.

But short rundown on parts needed.

    Power Pack (500w+)
    CPU (try get duel core)
Motherboard (get one that’s PCI-Express and possibly do SLI and supports duel core naturall)
RAM (loads of different RAM out there depends how good a make you want, try for 2gig on a gaming rig)
Graphics Card (again depends how good you want, 6 series Nvidia’s are still pretty good but you’ll prolly want a 7 series, dunno too much about ATI since i rarely buy them always had Nvidia the last few times i’ve built)
Sound Card (prolly worth just getting the X-Fi stuff, but all depends on how much again you want to spend)
Hard Drive ( good prices at the moment for 200gig + also get SATA)
    Floppy Drive (just incase)
    Montier (need a new one?)
Keyboard/Mouse (again not really needed if you have one already)
Case (get a decent cooling one with plenty of space inside, best asking around on that one)
Optical Drive’s (DVD Re-Writers that can Double Layer right are pretty good )
Any Extra Fans (to help cooling)

But if you in no big rush could be worth waiting another 6-8months DX10 cards will be out (possibly with Havok Pysics chips on them) and so will Windows Vista. Personally i’m waiting till this time next year, so DX10 cards are out and i know what games coming out will really need it

Aye just cause you can fly the ship doesn’t mean you’ll do any better, you need the skills to back it up, in a Battlecrusier you need your hardners skill, decent Engineering/Electronic skills and then you got you meduim gunnery skills.

Best idea is getting most skills to level 4. (lvl 5 for some low skills since you need them for high skills) but most skills to level 4 won’t take too long. Rank 1 skills take around 24hrs to do (less if you have your learning up.)
