Hi. My name is Lensman, and I am a spanner.
Personally I’m loving the engineers kit for maps involving vehicles & decent open spaces. The motion mines effin rock and I’ve grown quite attached to my sonar vehicle locator – especially when attached to my vehicle.
AA rockets are a bit shit, and I have not yet quite got the AT uber gun.
The only annoyance is that you can’t carry around all your kit – you have to choose two bits at the begining of each round. What’s the bloody point of collecting all this kit but you can only lump around a couple of pieces at once?
I also wish it would remember my customisations between games. The number of times I’ve joined a game and leapt to someone’s assistance with my defib or something, only to discover I forgot to hit customise. Pain the the harris.

It’s a shame the engy spanner isn’t actually a spanner … and when I’ve used it it doesn’t seem to clear up enemy mines either… =/
If I plan on flying, I use the sonar locator +(stuck to my gunship) and floaters – if i decide to land to capture a flag (top tip; never do it in a gunship but bleh…) then i can plonk the floaters by the flag to surprise the enxt git that gets there. The sonar helps especially on the gunship because in dogfights you can see where the enemy are when you otherwise would have lost track of them 😀
If I plan on staying on the ground, I swap the sonar for emp mines and plant them (along with floaters) at the entrance to whatever im defending so they take out vehicles as they drive by.
If I plan on attacking the titan (yeah engy sucks for it but bleh need to log the 50 hours somehow…) I take the Ae defuser for miracle chance it can come in handy and the floaters to plant on the rear of their titan. I do this because typically we have to land a transport on their titan to spawn on it and some guy thinking they’re well ‘ard will get in and back out so we can’t spawn on it, or worse – camp us with it’s guns. With the floaters in place they can do 2 things: act as a deterrent, to stop asshats taking our spawnpoint or hand of justice, to kill the little twat who took our spawn!!!
I know what you mean about the AA unlock – after trying it I’m not as impressed with it any more =/ I fired 2 shots intoa transport and it was only half dead – by the time I reloaded it had pissed off somewhere else …. 😥

November 10, 2006 at 1:39 pm #38825RonathonParticipantMr Max is correct, the support HMG is a pile of pants. Waste of an unlock as the std gun is better 😥

I acctually agree with you on this one.. Our server is not as it should be!! It should remember the fooking squad you was in on the next round too ala BF2.. but it doesnt!
OP.. you seriously need to call these people and complain.. its fucked!
there MIRC support is toss, they just blame EA all the fucking time.. cunts!

Calm yourselves. Let’s not break out the flaming torches for storming castle multiplay just yet.
The server is setup with the clanmatch autoswitch module – this swaps players over to the other team at the end of each round, so on a 2 round rotation everyone gets a turn on both sides. The side effect of this is that squad information is lost. This was the same for BF2 and we accepted it, thinking it was better to alternate sides rather than be stuck on the same side (US or MEC) and with the same squads all night.
I reckon with 2142 the autoswitch module is also causing the kit slections to be forgotten too at the end of each round.
If you can say for certain that you’ve played on a server which switches sides at the end of each round and DOES remember your kit customisation then we should take it up with multiplay. Otherwise we can do away with autoswitch or make do.
November 10, 2006 at 3:15 pm #38828airmessyParticipantDid you guys not only turn the auto switch on because of the total one sidedness on some of the bf2 maps?
Thus giving both sides a chance to wtf pwn the other?
If so then you might as well take it off as there are no such maps in 2142 that are so one sided. iirc

November 10, 2006 at 3:39 pm #38830TurksMeisterParticipantI think you only have to add your kit for your first 2 games -w hen you are back on your original team, I believe it remembers it from last time.

For me it remembers. On your server that is.

Personally I never bothered with the AA gun, even before I heard it was shit… there are so many other ways of taking out the “not so dominant” air power now, that it really didnt seem worth it. The Pilum however… is fucking awesome! (When you hit that is! – v frustrating watching the rocket just miss a moving target – but more satisfying when you hit one!)

Not really. But then there’s no point having 2 rounds per map if you are going to play on the same side twice. I prefer the two round / autoswap config we have now, though i must admit it can get a bit tedious on a titan map sometimes. I like the way squads are reset at the beginning of each round – gives someone else a chance to squad lead.
I am now not sure what you mean Legit – do you mean your kit customisation is not remembered during a round and you have to reselect each time you spawn? Or do you mean when the map changes? Or when you rejoin the server?
If there is something wrong on our server it will be a config setting somewhere. It won’t be just because its ‘multiplay’.
