October 9, 2016 at 8:30 pm #87538Beer_MonsterParticipantI’m actually proper butthurt by the EA server announcement.
I cannot for the life of me fathom why they would make such a decision. Limiting the game servers will essentially put off any clans/communities dedicating time/resources to the running of a server.
All I can think of is they are pandering to the new snowflake generation of console gamers and PC gaming doesn’t fit in to their new grand scheme.
October 10, 2016 at 7:48 pm #87539Beer_MonsterParticipantExcellent reddit post on the server subject.
There’s not enough complaining at all about this major change. Let’s not forget that BF1 will be the first BF title that doesn’t have rental servers for release.
That’s a big fuck you to all the PC communities that helped make this franchise what it is today. And the almost non existing outrage is quite strange tbh. When battlepacks for BF4 were announced, reddit had their pitchforks up in an instant with concerns about pay2win. Same with Premium in BF3.
All this sub consists of is questions about preorder that could be answered in five seconds with a google search, praise for the “historical accuracy” of the campaign even though no one payed it so far, or demands for solider customisation.
In threads about the server situation posts with critisism get downvoted pretty quickly which would qualify for r/hailcorporate material.
And lets not forget all the game changers and content creators on youtube who post a 10min video about every fart the EA PR team throws at them. The post on battlefield.com about the server rental program? Not a single video so far from LevelCap, Westie, Xfactor, Jackfrags and the like. But that’s pretty obvious, you won’t be shitting on your own doorstep. They’re all dependant on the EA for future invites to release event and the like, so better be quite about it and hope for big view numbers after release.
I wonder how long they can keep quite about it though, since everyone who bought BF games since atleast BC2 knows that the servers will be filled with cheaters nuking whole servers and advertising their products. The fact that their won’t be any administrated servers for the first two and a half weeks on PC does look pretty grim. Coupled with the fact that those script kiddies don’t even need to buy the game, but rather get Origin access and cheat their hearts out for ten hours doesn’t make it better.
But hey badmins ruined a lot of players experience in BF4 so lets all have them witness the streamlined BF experience of only official servers for half a month.
I’m not a fan of a lot of Procon plugins myself, namely sniper/weapon limiter, utter useless chat spam plugins to the extent that there is no way of typing something in chat cause every knife/RPG/whatever kill gets announced in chat. Same goes with 3000 ticket, fast vehicle spawn servers. But I have a choice of not joining those servers and blackist them in battlelog. But Dice giving those options through their API to admins and in the next title use this argument to give no proper info about servers and no server at all at release is just lazy bullshit.
This game is simply rushed to push it on the market, and grab a big pile of console customers before COD comes out. With the side effect that the PC side gets shafted in regards to servers.
I started my journey into BF with Battlefield 1918 for BF1942, and made a lot of friends during that time. We as a group spent quite some money on servers in BF2, BC2, BF3 and BF4, but seeing the direction EA goes this isn’t gonna happen in BF1. And I think there are a lot of others who share this opinion.
Does EA care about a minority of old farts who played this game since it’s beginning, founded communities and bought servers. No, not at all. Do I’ve the freedom to voice my concerns and anger about it? You bet I do.
And just to make it clear, I don’t blame the devs for this situation. I bet there are a lot of them not happy about the way EA dictates the priorities in regards to features, release date and the like.October 13, 2016 at 9:54 am #87540XDCFluffyBunnyParticipantBeer_Monster I completely agree its a huge omission and one that should never have happened. Playing BF games on a regular server like MG’s makes it a much better game and one that you are more likely to come back to. It should never have happened.
October 13, 2016 at 11:23 am #87541XDCSprogParticipantHow big an upgrade am I likely to face to play battlefield 1
If the last rig I bought was optimised for battlefield 3
Am I looking at a big arse overhaul ?
Keep it simple with the replies please….it’s still all Greek to me.
But I’m watching it on twitch and it does look sexy
October 13, 2016 at 2:41 pm #87542OccaParticipantsprog depends on your rig atm…
Mine dates back to bf3 launch too though I have upgraded my gpu few years ago and bought SSD drive. Rest of it is the old stuff. I was able to run bf1 beta all good without the eyecandy stuff…
October 15, 2016 at 4:55 am #87543Beer_MonsterParticipantAny idea on your existing specs?
I would have thought that the CPU would be ok, if it’s an older i5 or suchlike. But you’d probably need to drop £200 or so on a new GPU, perhaps a 1060, assuming you can fit a PCI-e card in the Mobo.
October 16, 2016 at 9:44 am #87544XDC wild egg tamerParticipantfollowing a link on whatsapp regards a cheating fuck on BF1, here’s the actual article:
http://www.pcgamer.com/bf1-hacks/
can we get a dedicated BF1 sub forum like we have for the other games?
October 18, 2016 at 9:13 am #87545XDCFluffyBunnyParticipantIts a bit of a worry that people are presumably paying full price for the game and then using hacks.
There’s apparently a few and no admins mean naff all you can do about it.
Will be interesting to see just what admins will be able to control when they eventually allow their rental servers: (hadn’t realised they were introducing these, lets hope they aren’t watered down in what you can control)
