This is one hell of a film, but not for everyone.
If you like Johnny Depp then watch it. If you dont then dont!!
Set during the 1600’s this film charts the life of a man fixcated with sex and self endurance. Depp plays it all the way and IMOA is one of his best if, overlooked roles. Co staring along side John Malkovich and (strange as it may seem) Jonny Vagas, Depp plays his part to the full. How this man hasnt got oscars yet I dont know. He shows how he can play any role thrown at him and is engrossing to the eye and to the mind all the way through this fantastic film.
Now, dont get me wrong, youve got to think about this film and think hard. The entire film is styled in the period of which it is set, so expect alot of “thees” and “Thous” etc etc. There is also a lot of sex scenes and not a lot is left to the imagination. The whole film is dark and thoughtfull and lets you leaving it with the sense that you wanted to know more about Depps characture and what made him the man he was and what drove him to self extremes to what was in the end his own distruction.

not seen it yet but im guessing that if theres lots of sex and long wigs then it must be set in the original swinging 60’s that was the 1660’s when Charles II took the throne after the death of the puritanical dictator Cromwell. You have to invisage that post civil war England was an almost policed state where theatre colour and generally any slightly submissive behavior was a crime. When the king returned after being in exile in France he was the first to demonstrate how to let your hair down and of course the majority of the population (at least in London) followed his example. You should grab Samuel Pepes diaries Morgan to get an idea of the goings on at the time 😉

Was an interesting time for England, makes modern times look rather tame in comparison. This film captures the essence of the time with unnerving detail. As I said great film!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Sounds like the kinda of film Michael Barrymore and Marc Almond would enjoy watching whilst oiling each other up!
