ParticipantI assume you bought it later than this time last year? If not I’d have to assume it will still be under warranty?
Seems the picture wolf posted is broken too.. maybe it was made by apple also?

Participantis it still less that 12 months since you bought it? if so its covered by a 12 month warranty.
How long is my iPod covered by Apple’s warranty?
Your iPod is covered for one year by Apple’s Limited Warranty for iPod. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase (â€ÂÂÂdate of purchaseâ€ÂÂÂ). A $29.95 shipping and handling fee will apply to all warranty repairs performed 180 days after date of purchase. If you have purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod (“APP for iPod”), there will be no shipping and handling fee.taken from http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/#faq2

Participanti would consult with trading standards tess , did you buy it from a shop? because if you do your first contact should be with them
any goods sold must be of merchantable quality and an ipod should work for more than one year!!!
i used trafding standrds to force simply computers to fix my laptop that had packed up after 1 3/4 years
beware of calling apple as they use a number that will cost you a fortune! i had a problem with mine when it went dead , i left it conected to my pc overnight and by some miricle it worked again the next day lol
obviously you should try reseting it to

Participanti work for a company called equinox maint’ ltd, they repair ipods, you can get repair via the dedicated site https://www.ipod-surgery.co.uk/
have you checked via itunes that the warranty is up tho?

ParticipantI can’t check anything as it refuses to boot up even if connected to the computer. I’d be tempted to give trading standards a go.
Cheers for the link gonzo, I have it bookmarked 😀
