So…. after my reinstall i can finally play Crysis! Wee!
Playing it at high resolution on high settings I am getting a fair bit of slow down. Is this just to be expected or am i right in thinking that a replacement processor might do the trick? I thought the 8800 would eat this game up…. so something is holding me back.
What do you guys think? Is it worth upgrading and if so to what?
Also… I have hated creative forever. Any one tried one of these new asus sound cards?

Participantyou forget one thing… crysis is nuts
turn down some of the in game effects and it should be more playable.
I have a 4870×2 card with 2 gig of ram on it and even that has slowed down in some of the more insane sequences… fluff has a 8800 and he has to turn down most of the settings.
I am about half way through this and loving ever second of it.. it is a beautiful if insanely demanding game.
you can find hardocp’s finding of the card and game here

ParticipantHmmm cheers for the link. Maybe I was just playing in too high a res.
To be honest… since I am now playing it months after release with what was at the time one of the top of the range cards I thought it would be fine. Thats why i wondered if the CPU was holding me back.
I am enjoying the game – but the stealth side of it is a bit shit dont you think? Never seen a game that does stealth well. enemy AI isn’t exactly spectacular either – but I am playing on normal mode… anyone tried hard? Is it better?

Participantlol
that a side..
i thougth the stealth was done ok
when you cloak it is no guarantee that they wont see you and they alway flock to your last know location which leads to some scarey situations. guess you have to give it the benefit of the doubt.
i am not enjoying the later stages as much as the 1st part but it might get better.

ParticipantWell thanks for all the advice guys really helped 🙄
I just shelled out for a 3ghz core 2 duo so will see how that works out.
Finished crysis tonight – played fine on 1600*1200 in high mode.. though a few bits slowed down it wasn’t to major.
Mixed feelings really. Graphics were pretty special and I liked the storyline, but the stuff in the alien base was rubbish, and the main gun towards the end (the alien weapon) was rubbish too.
COD 4 next! 😀
ps – magicker are you wanting a free COH or not?

ParticipantRight, for those who are interested (probably all zero of you) I installed my new CPU today…. and almost crapped myself when it started making a high pitched clicking sound when i powered it up! Anyway – I sorted it out… gired up crysis… and it rocks! Made a huge difference to my frame rate.
I read a mates copy of custom PC this week and it had a CPU roundup – rated the 3 gig core 2 duo very highly – and they overclocked it to 4.1 for amazing results (was outperforming most of the quad cores for most things.)
So… next time i need some techy advice… i wont ask you feckers!
Thank you.
ps – still interested in anyone who has tried non-creative soundcards 😀
