Greetings follow XDCers
the new site
right… we are now hosted at out new site.. and what a site it is.we now have shed loads of space and a whole host of gimmicks with which to play with.
this will have some immediate benefits eg raising the size of the uploads when using attachments and the number of attachments we can have across the site.
our front page
I would also like to take this opportunity to have another look at our front end. So get your thinking hats on.1st question: do we need a front page or should the forum be the XDC website?
2nd question: if we keep it how should be manage it…
We have options:
1) we can keep the current front end stop worrying about it.
2) we could look at one of the portal systems that go with phpbb3 similar to our old phpnuke site?
3) we can swap to another content system….My initial inclination is to use WordPress (the blogging tool) as our main front end. This is for a number reasons.
insane number of themes available and i am sure even us lot can settle on one
very very very easy for even the most techno illiterate bod to look after and post stuff..
some of you probably already use wordpress
we can use the buckets of plugins to get just about any functionality out of the site.. including photogalleries and all the other goodies we dont have at present.

however, as much as i am in love with wordpress i am not precious about it at all and am open to suggestionsmore importantly it would be nice if people could update it once in a while.
Opportunities
As I mentioned in another thread this hosting package comes with a shed load of value added products and space is not an issue.
So.. if anyone is interested we could host individual members sites eg turks.xdcuk.com / wolf.xdcuk.com / phart.xdcuk.com
I am not sure if anyone is interested but it is possible.

I also think the RIP front page is pretty cool – http://www.rustyinplaces.org/rip/ and has some cool features (althought hey are used in a bit of an uber leet way)
Reet o, theres some issues with PM’s I’ve just noticed, when you click on a PM within a post, it automatically quotes the thread (not to sure if its meant to do that) anyhoos.. just typed out huge message to someone, clicked submit and IE failed to do whatever it failed to do, click back.. so you do and all is gone, except the quotes! GRR!!!
anyhoos will try a different link to a PM and see how that goes

Andy I’m quite keen to have a look at these new tools but I don’t really know enough about them. Could you maybe set up a test domain for me (plus whoever else fancies a look) to play about with the options and get a feel for what’s possible etc?

We do need a frontpage for any clan type stuff we ever want to do. The too main reasons are future recruitment and any competition we’ll ever want to join requires certain features on team sites. Can’t really answer the other questions until I have closer look at WordPress, but it’s sound good so far 🙂

there are still a few bugs to iron out but i think it looks quite sweet
not the return of the image gallery with some good old retrol XDC moments.

Is that skin/colour thing available for me to use in the forums?
