ParticipantI don’t go all the way and get a CTD round my goolies.
but what I do get is
ner! “warning connection problems”
then nothing, no kick, no refresh, it just hangs there. Tried doing a ctrl-alt-delete to see if anything was hogging my processor, but alas no.
anyway I don’t care… 😥

Participantlol is that just on our server by chance?

ParticipantI was getting connection probs on xdc server day before yesterday. Re:CTD try re-installing 1.3 patch (full not incremental)
June 6, 2006 at 4:41 pm #26786itchinads
ParticipantDid try that yesterday thanks Hippy, but I was fine logging onto any other server in the world…EXCEPT THE BEST ONE!! 👿
Ending up playing on some weird server, wasn’t full of knobs mind 🙂

Participantbeen reading more about this since I learned wtf CTD meant 🙄 ,
the problem with CTD is that there are going to be X-amount of thousand variables that could cause it…
Old reports from BF2 say that it is an issue with Linux servers…
Then some later posts hint that without 2BG Ram you are going to suffer from CTD’s, I can’t see that anything inside the minimum spec would cause a CTD though. most interestingly, theres a few posts saying that excessive RAM and maxxed game settings will also cause CTD.
Screen size in game should match your monitor, and the latest Nvidia drivers 77.77 seem to be the standard..
but a few folks point here to a comment by EA on their latest patch
EA says:
Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows “Hosts” file must be removed.so have you installed any mods? Tracing MY steps my problems acctually started to occur after I had installed the ‘AirShow MOD’ –

ParticipantCouple of things to try..
Update punkbuster manually. I had this with both with Euro Forces and Armoured Fury last night. If PB can’t update automatically you won’t get any messages – just dumped to desktop or game freeze. It usually happens within the first few seconds of joining a game.

Also its a good idea to check your RAM with Memtest. BF2 is a memory fiend and its likely to be the only application on your PC that will ever get near to using the 2Gb you’ve forked out for. Its unlikely under normal usage that you will ever see problems with your RAM – but BF2 will find em and crash. If you’ve got 2 Gb try reducing it to 1Gb and see if the problems occur, then swap over chips and try again. If one of them crashes and the other doesnt it might be a memory problem. Running memtest will indicate a problem chip and it may mean a refund.

ParticipantSaw a post about removing the cache file and allowing it to reoptimise all the textures again sometimes helps.
I noticed that none of the AF maps optimised themselves when loading, which I though was odd as I thought every map optimised itself if you’d not played it before.
I know it’s a PIA to wait for it but maybe worth a try too.
Also I think if you delete the cache you get lumbered with listening the the annoying tutorial again. ‘Press E to exit or enter a vehicle’ no shit Sherlock!!

ParticipantMore nefarious still. My installation errors “MD5 error” when googled came up with 2 BF2 probs, sPunkbuster, or Memory error.
Punkbuster turned off on install, still error
Did a memory verification test, and lo and behold, FUBAR Dimm of RAM.
Arseholes 🙄
RO happy with it, BF2 not. At least seen a problem. Will be back on BF when given new RAM by firm I bought it from
