It is lame to camp it IMO, you can always just shoot it first and ignore the spawners, then respawn back at the flag, maybe even with a beacon of your own, before they cap it. There is like 1 in 5 chance the guy who spawned as you shot it is actually the squad leader and they could have dropped the beacon then changed their kit for a drone afterwards anyway so… hmm
Failing that just nade spam the shit out of it FFS!! It would kill whoever is landing next to it AND blow it up too!!

If they’re silly enough to keep spawning there then keep killing them, each time they spawn / die there you’re effectively keeping one of the enemy off the battlefield. It’s tactically sound, and if they don’t like it they can always spawn somewhere else.

Half the time that one’s deployed, the squad actually want it destroyed or moved anyway.
So, you’d be helping teh enemy by destroying it. So you shouldn’t 🙂
December 10, 2006 at 1:55 pm #41356XDC MadHippyParticipantPlaying one of the beta servers last night and got so pissed off with members of my own team and sometimes my squad blasting the shit outta my beacon even if I just laid it!! The one fookin time ya need it blown up there’s no fooker around to do it. It a conspiricy I tells ya!
December 10, 2006 at 1:58 pm #41357To0THBRU5HParticipantOne day a squad of Support guys should just surround the spawn beacon area with drone guns – would be funny 😛
December 10, 2006 at 7:56 pm #41358xdc_queekerParticipantOr u could load up with c4 and a squadmate , drive in and blow everyone up.
December 11, 2006 at 11:52 am #41359WipersParticipantI knew from the first day of playing 2142 that camping the mobile spawn beacon was going to be an issue.
First off – Zig wasn’t doing anything wrong from what i can see. If he genuinely couldnt see the beacon then fair enough but it would be easy to see why the other team would get narked.
But if you can see the beacon then in my opinion its extremely lame not to destroy it. Yes it tactically sound to camp it and stop them spawning but equally you could apply that to capable flags. What then would be wrong in sitting in an APC outside the capping radius of an enemy flag and raping the crap out of the other side as they spawn?? You could say that you were providing support for your team as they go in to cap it?
Yet we disapprove of that and have kicked people before for doing it esp in BF2 (remember the apc/armour campers at the hotel flag in Karky?). I think its no different for mobile spawns. Yes its tactics, yes the squad have a choice but imo its poor gamesmanship and I say we shouldnt allow it on our server. And having a sense of fairplay is what makes our server different and gets decent players coming back.

December 11, 2006 at 12:42 pm #41361LensmanParticipantCertainly you should make all reasonavble efforts to find & destroy the spawn beacon, short of gettng your arse shot off and losing the flag you were defending.
I think that was what ziggy was saying – he could not find the beacon. If he could, he would have killed it
I problem I have with beacons is that I hear one beeping away and so go and look for it. When I find one, it is not obvious whose beacon it is – hence the comments above about people shooting your own beacon. I think you have to be looking right at it for the beacon icon to be displayed – green = yours, red = enemy’s.
Of course, by the time you’ve done this, some bugger has sneaked up and stabbed you…. 🙄

What’s blue? I swear I keep seeing them with blue on them?

That’s the move squad beacon. When squad leader selects T and move here command you’ll see that little blue thing – Fookin annoying when ya close to it!

Nah – thats yellow isnt it? 😕
December 11, 2006 at 1:55 pm #41365XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantNo I mean when I’m in the main screen window and I see a becon, beconing away. When I take a look it appears blue. I’ve always though this was friendly as I was on the blue team? But I don’t get the green thing now then if that’s the case?
December 11, 2006 at 2:05 pm #41366Mr.FenixParticipantYeah, any clues to identifying who a beacon belongs to gratefully received lol.
If the policy is going to be to discourage camping enemy beacons because of its similarity to regular spawn-camping, then there should be a server motd to that effect. No problemo.

If you get close to your own beacon it should appear as a green icon on the HUD.
Agreed about the message. I’ll see about fixing the server message that appears when you load maps.
