Participantit’s a netgear DG834GT and they won’t give me access to it, they won’t give me the network password, no they have to type it in to let me have access. In other words they have complete control over the network.

Participantthats the prob legit, he can’t login!!! the tosser flatmates have restricted all access……..
any chance of using telnet to that address form your pc wolf and seeing if you can access the router setup that way ?
you say it was a sky modem but its been flashed ? its a long shot but perhaps the default sky login is still stored somewhere in memory…….Default sky login- username= admin, password= sky.

You can try logging into the router via a web browser using the IP they have bound to the router e.g http://192.168.0.100 etc. You will be prompted for a username and Password if they have left it as the default one shipped with the router the username is Admin and Password is Admin.
If they are true numpties they wouldn’t have changed this, If it works you can reset the password and effectively lock them out. However they can always do hard reset and reset it back to factory defaults again. you never know 😉

Participantjust had a thought wolf……….you say to access the net the flatmates have to enter the password on your pc ? Is there a .cfg file somewhere within the netgear folders that may have the password stored, else its as you suggested earlier and install a keylogger…….. 🙁

Mate, I have a Netgear, there is a tiny indented button on the back where the power button and cat 5 ports are, resets to factory. User is Admin, pass the same.
You will however need the ISP login & IP details so that you can set it up again

ParticipantAll routers have a reset switch.. there not just netgear only
I’m sure he’s already been told this in another thread but access to the router forbid reseting it.. or did I dream that bit? :/

Participanti think wolf said the router is in their room which is locked! Holding the reset button for 5 seconds normally resets it to factory mode whereby all settings are returned to standard.
Me thinks wolf needs to learn to pick locks, either that or send them back orifice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_Orifice and torment the sad fuckers 😈

ParticipantYou could try something like this.
Assuming they have set up the blocks on your PC by IP address (as they will probably not want to block off their own), you could try changing your IP address. If you’re lucky, all the restrictions they have applied will be bypassed. It’s a long shot though.
I must admit their actions seem completely unreasonable. Do you pay towards the cost of the internet? Are they your landlords? If you are contributing – even indirectly via rent – then unless your contract is explicit in this matter I don’t think they can restrict your access like this.
The thing that seems completely barmy is that they have to type a password on your PC to give you access to the web. What happens if they are out? Why do they “own” the network?
Can you negotiate a set period in the week for access?
Sorry for asking such questions – I’m just intrigued as to how this situation came about. And mystified at the petty mindset of such people that think they have the right to control you like this. If you really can’t budge them, then move out. I know its drastic, but living under conditions like that will just fester in your head.

ParticipantHmmm – well there are two sides to every story – there must have been some really fucked up communication between all parties before all this happened. Tell us more Wolf. And why dont you just leave and find another flat??
I dont think technological know how is going to get you out of this one… I suggest you take a more psychological approach.
1) Teach yourself how to hypnotise people… its really not hard… I taught myself from a book in medical school within a week.
2) Some night when they are a bit more friendly to you ask them if they want to be put under a trance ‘for a laugh.’
3) Give them both post hypnotic suggestions to be your slaves for the duration of your stay…. I guess if the girl is a goer maybe drop a few hints about how attractive you will now appear to her too.
Job done.
