Major publisher THQ has announced the PC real-time strategy follow up to the critically acclaimed Company of Heroes with Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, currently in development at Relic for release this fall.
Built upon Relic’s proprietary Essence Engine and Microsoft DirectX 10, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts is billed as a standalone follow-up. Much like Relic and THQ’s most recent Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War expansion, Dark Crusade, Opposing Fronts will support, but not require players to have the original Company of Heroes in order to play this game once it’s available.
While the original game placed players in the role of Able Company as they participated in battles all across Europe, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts will have players take up the role of either the German Panzer Elite in Operation Market Garden, or the British 2nd Army in the battle for Caen, France. The upcoming title will also boast a new online experience as well with new, as yet unspecified multiplayer modes.
â€ÂÂÂIn Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts players will experience fast-paced dynamic tactics like never before, in two of the most brutal World War II campaigns ever fought,†said Relic Entertainment general manager Tarrnie Williams. “With two intensely cinematic campaigns, significant upgrades to the Essence Engine, mission persistence, improved vehicle AI and weather effects that directly impact the battlefield, we’re delivering yet again on our commitment to leading the way in strategic gaming with the best, most innovative titles available.â€ÂÂÂ
April 27, 2007 at 7:31 am #48988RyzoParticipanti think its a top game, the detail that went into it was fantastic! im always partial to a strat made by THQ. The point capturing was kind of similiar to Dawn of war, but with a nice twist.

April 27, 2007 at 11:22 am #48994April 27, 2007 at 1:45 pm #48995TurksMeisterParticipantJust had a go online as Axis… not sure what was going on… the tech tree is very different!
Only played allies when I had the “borrowed” version.
Anyone up for a game tonight?
April 27, 2007 at 1:47 pm #48996XDCiNSANEParticipantI would but only have TBYB version 🙂
April 27, 2007 at 1:58 pm #48997XDCsPUNKerParticipantI started with the “ahem” version and knew that it was going to be a buy after you try game as i think they do.
couple more tips for you guys. When playing axis you have to upgrade the HQ each time to access building new stuff. Try to back units up so they can flank an enemy as you will have more success. ALways check the colour of the shield if you infantry units get into a fight and make sure it isnt red or you are likely to die a lot quicker from not having adequate cover. If there is a building close by, occupy it and call up reinforcements as those units will be far better covered in the building (at least against infantry) If the building you are occupying is in your territory (aka blue) but far from your main HQ then think about perhaps converting that building into an hq also so you have access to units much closer to the battlefront -
