    1. to originate or create as a product of one’s own ingenuity, experimentation, or contrivance

    AS you can see the word invent means create with one’s own ingenuity so if Tess created a cross-breed using her own ingenuity she would be inventing it. If she produced it the it would be creating.

    Creation is the realm of God and really we only invent, not create!
