If thats true then its a bit daft buying it given that many of us swap out mobos every 18 months or so.
I’ll wait till I can get the business edition from work.

ParticipantSo Vista OEM once installed won’t let you upgrade hardware? Is that right? Or do they mean new hardware means a fresh install? Either way it sounds a bit poo.

yes it will, you just have to save a file out of system folder then replace it when you put in your new hardware. 😀

Heh. Sneaky McQueen. But it seems as if Microsoft are actually trying to limit the useability of their software, rather than trying to improve it. Ah well. Hopefully it’ll be all up to speed when I load it on my PC, in 2009.

Participantyeah, afaik, it’s the same as XP, there a certain restriction about installing on another machine, so it’s nothing new and ways to get around it.
I think i might bite the bullet and have a crack at installing it and sod the consequences. i think i once “owned a copy of windows 95 that came with a PC i bought, but apart from that i’ve “borrowed” keys from friends in IT dept’s.
i figure i may as well go for the 64bit version if my hardware can handle it and hope for the best. Whats life about if you can’t take a little risk. 😛

ParticipantVista is still Iffy with games.
Racing game and Battlefield work fine, but EVE Online seemed to struggle. not sure if its down to vista or the graphics drivers.
may be alright when i get this new radeon X1950pro 🙂

vista works fine for me, no issues other then beta driver for x-fi, top OS.
From the creative site:
Known issues:
This driver does not support the following:
Decoding of Dolby® Digital and DTS™ signals
DVD-Audio
DirectSound®-based EAX games
6.1 speaker mode.
SPDIF passthrough is supported on Vista 32-bit only.
Applications from the original Sound Blaster X-Fi CD will not work with this download.Thats a joke. No EAX on games? Wtf? Still holding off……

ParticipantMore on this
Due to additional requirements in the Windows Vista driver certification process, the release of the final signed drivers for the Sound Blaster range will move out beyond our initial projected date until early March. The current Beta drivers are still valid for use under Vista and are required to take advantage of the benefits of Creative ALchemy with the Sound Blaster X-Fi range to restore multichannel audio and EAX to your games. We appreciate your understanding for this change to the schedule as we work to bring you the best experience for your Sound Blaster series cards while adhering to the requirements of this new operating system.
Creative Alchemy??
See here:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=Vista&message.id=5009I don’t see BF2142 listed as being supported…. 🙄
For the initial beta phase of Creative ALchemy, we made the decision to concentrate on products based on the X-Fi chip. Support for Audigy 2 and 4 class products will be determined as the current beta progresses and we are able to assess the quality of the beta and overall demand for Creative ALchemy
Let me translate – “If you want your Audigy card to use EAX under Vista – tough shit – upgrade to X-Fi and hope we can be bothered to get the drivers out”

Participantyup, i just got the 64bit OEM home premium, i figured whats the point of going for 32bit when it’s gonna be yesterdays news soon, and if it doesn’t work, well i’ll do a fresh install of XP and wait a few months, but the research i’ve done on various geek forums is most new applications and hardware work without too much fuss. It’ll be here tomorrow and i’ll have a crack at installing this weekend……so probably see ya in a few months. 🙄
