Not really – more speed = same reaction time but by the time you react you have covered a larger distance…..
Jesus – it’s like arguing with a fucking amoeba. Car pulls out 50 yards in front of you and you have half the time time to react doing 60 not 30. Actually less, when you factor in the different stopping distances.
Oh, why bother…….
No .. you have half the time to cover the same distance or double the distance over the same period of time, whatever, but someone’s acual reaction will always take the same amount of time. It takes 2 seconds to react on average and it usually always will. And yes – it is like I’m arguing with amoebas π
At the end of the day none of you have ever done it so none of you are qualified to accurately comment until lyou do. Don’t stay on your moral high ground with the bs that it’s dangerous as if you actually did do it you would see it’s not really that dangerous at all, providing you do things within reason. You do not have to pactually stop to avoid a collision, you can justa s easily slow down or change direction…

February 21, 2007 at 4:16 pm #45957airmessyParticipantI am amazed…..
How the fark can anyone be so thick with only one head is totally beyond me.
Alz posting his sig would be a fitting end to this thread me thinks.
February 21, 2007 at 4:37 pm #45958AnonymousParticipantI’m sorry but if y’all want to see who is thick you should look in the mirror. Just because you can’t understand what is being said does not mean it’s incorrect. Speed is just a multiplier for when events do go wrong, it doesn’t make them go wrong to start with, so it isn’t technically/literally dangerous. How many times and in how many ways does it have to be explained untill it sinks into the meat in those heads? I’m not even sure where to begin to describe it in laymans terms….
And you know what? After all this bitching not one person has even posted with anything other than an opinion the speed is dangerous… you know it because you’re told to know it…. think outside the box, or even in the literal box or atlest think for yourselves ffs – in what world is speed alone dangerous? -_-

Spped alone isnt dangerous, but there is a time and a place…..and thats NOT on public roads, keep it for the track! π

Velocity (V) = Distance (s)/ Time (t) The units are m/s
As Velocity is a vector, we will refer to it as speed as we are only interested in a straight line velocity.
From this simple formula you can see that the higher the velocity, the greater the distance covered per time unit must be. So at say 30 m/s in two seconds (your reaction time) you will cover 60 m. At 60 m/s you will cover 120 m. But that’s not the whole story as you know.
What are you doing when hitting the brakes? dissipating Kinetic Energy to heat as a rule via friction. Look at the KE in a 100 kg rider and bike combo at 30 and 60:
KE = 0.5mv^2
KE @ 30 = 45000 Joules
KE @ 60 = 180000 Joules
That is double the speed, quadruple the energy.
That is FOUR times as much energy to dissipate. And what else happes with brake pads? The hotter they are the less efficient they are at transferring Kinetic Energy to Heat Energy (Thermal Energy) so as they dissipate your speed they get less efficient at dissipating it. Oh! Double Whammy.
Basically, it matters not what you say, the fact is that at twice the speed you are going to cover twice the distance per second and carry FOUR times the Energy, just because you haven’t hit anyone yet doesn’t mean to say you won’t, you’ve already admitted that you will continue to make mistakes.
And contrary to what you beleive, a simple modelling using Newtons Laws of Motion is enough for people to realise that it is much more dangerous at these speeds than you would lead us to beleive, but most people don’t need it actually argued scientifically, they can work it out with common sense, something you are apparently lacking.
February 21, 2007 at 5:54 pm #45962XDCsPUNKerParticipantStop this! we have to All conceed that LeGit is in fact right and every one else is wrong therefore we should bow down to his wisdom and make him a God where his floored ethics are gospel and we shall proceed to be better drivers by driving faster in built up areas.
It makes so much sense LeGit we must all be so stupid! Gosh! it frightens me how stupid we must look to your lordhip!
Perhaps now after 20 years of carefull driving without a single crash (apart from some numpty that was going too fast and did’nt have enough stopping distance to brake went into the back of me but itΓΖΓβΓΒ’Γ’β¬à ‘ΓΖΓ’β¬Ε‘ΓβΓΒ΄s ok as he must have been one of your angels) I can now proceed to put your divine wisdom into practice and perhaps show everyone some lovely pictures of my wrecks in the future …and of course blame it on everyone else

February 21, 2007 at 7:13 pm #45965TurksMeisterParticipantSince I ride a bicycle I think I am qualified to answer here.
When I am doing over 30mph, It is far more dangerous – I risk having n asthma attack.
Case closed.

No one is saying that it doesn’t have side effects, it’s just that the speed alone does not make it dangerous. On the way home today infact some retarded kid was going about 10mph on a main road on his pedal bike. You know what the dipshit did? He had cars coming behind him at 30mph, then without looking behind him (and about 10 metres away from a fucking crossing) pulls across to cross the road to go under my front wheel. I was doing 30mph π― But because I had awareness and control I could avoid him without giving the little asshat the mowing down he so surely deserves. He is isntantly more dangerous @ 10mph because he lacks awareness than I am at 100mph… don’t even attempt to deny it!!
As for your argument with brakes – that’s where planning ahead and throttle control (and engine braking?) comes into play…. could just as easily not brake but speed up to avoid a collision or change direction (dependant upon circumstances), so if you expect someone to slam on the brakes every time then it is your own logic which is flawed – I rarely use my brakes at all. When I say continue to make mistakes, driving as wel las riding is a continous cycle of action/reaction/mistake/correction… I will make mistakes, but I’m aware enough to correct them unlike the general mongrol population….

That sort of mongrol would never be one of mine, The very fact that they crashed without leaving adequate time to stop meant they never planned ahead, which puts them in the category of your generic mongrol but travelling at speed. They’re the people who should never be allowed to go fast, they should have never been allowed onto the roads to start with.
