Have just read thru this thread, 1&1 are ….. not very good!
Glad to hear you’re planning to move.
If you need it I have a php script that runs as a cron job and automagically backs-up a mySQL database and either FTP’s it to another place or sends it by email (FTOP is better coz passwords and stuff are visible in the email….).

That way you can get daily backups without effort….
