Blaaady ‘ell.
I thought I’d give a bit of online multiplayer a try. I’ve played the other PC games in the series, so for a veteran battlefield gamer like myself, this should be a walk in the park right?
WRONG
Christ on a bike this game’s hard! I spend most of my time spawning and dying, or getting lost or getting sniped. So has anyone got any tips, hints or decent advice? I understand that I need to earn points to get things like med kits or ammo boxes, but I’d like to stay alive long enough to achieve this! I also get the impression that I need to completely disregard any strategies or techniques I learned in BF2 or 2142.
November 1, 2010 at 1:33 pm #77640XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantI was the exact same. Load up game (first one on PC for a while) feel super confident….into game
‘Here we go punks bring it o…’
BAM
“WTF? Alright here we go I’m ready, bring..”
BAM BAM
And so on and so forth. But these days i’m not too shabby and can actually top the scoreboard, sometimes.Best advice mate, badger the gits around here with me to get on TS so we can run around in a squad!
November 1, 2010 at 1:34 pm #77641XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantLet me know a time you will be on and I’ll make sure I’m about. Adding friends to your friends list only works when they’re online. Also, I’m not on Steam which is why it’s good to sign in to TS. I’m usually about after work so after 5:30 ish.
Stuff learnt from previous verions does work. I tell you what I did have to learn (or unlearn) is the way I played COD on the Xbox. Cover and such things are fantastic on this game, running between trees, boxes, and houses. I found the beginning weapons a struggle till I got a nice little red dot sight. I started playing off non-hardcore, then hardcore (so the other guys died quicker), but now I’m happier on non-hardcore because I love the idea of spotting, having a map,a nd being able to see how much ammo I’ve left.
The maps were a nightmare when i started off. So many times I wished my soldier could rip out his iPhone and load up Google Maps to tell me what way i should be running. Rush is quite handy a mode to start with as I found I’d learn the maps quicker this way not wondering of lost like a total numbnutz.
November 1, 2010 at 9:12 pm #77642XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantCheers Erratic, nice to know it’s not just me 🙂
Thanks for the tips. I might be online from about 10pm onwards tonight, maybe. I’ll need to get team speak sorted out first though as I’m a bit out of touch on using that. You should be able to find me ingame as neonsamurai= (since some guy has already taken the name).
November 2, 2010 at 9:59 am #77643XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantWow
That made a HUGE difference. Thanks for teaming up last night Erratic, even if it was just to keep de-fibbing my twitching corpse. Great to get some guidance and in game advice, as well as somebody to watch my back. Still got blitz’ed by all of those snipers though, but at least I now know why I was getting blown away (and then got to see Erratic getting some payback).
There’s still a hell of a lot to take in though. I got a few unlocks whilst playing, but I’ve no idea what I did to warrant it. Still pretty bewildering, but I think that’s part of the charm.
Will definitely be up for some more, maybe on Wednesday or Thursday night from about 8pm onwards.
November 2, 2010 at 10:30 am #77644XDCErratic-SpaceParticipant(Space btw but something messed up with that ID here):)
That was a good laugh last night running about with another on XDCer and actually both being on TS. I think we fared pretty well seeing as how we were on the losing team each time.
Unlocks – The points you pick up whilst playing a certain class will help you unlock more for that class. As you saw last night when you first start off your best bet is to pinch the packs of your dead comprades!
Yeah I’ll be up for some more then. Good showing mate and nice to have you back playing some games.
November 3, 2010 at 9:24 am #77645XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantHopefully be around tonight from about 8pm onwards for game tonight Space, and of course it’d double the awesomeness if we could get one or two more XDC’ers online as well. Be nice to have a well-rounded squad rather than Space and myself trying to cover all of the classes with just two of us.
November 3, 2010 at 11:58 am #77646XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantCool, cool. I saw Wolf and Doc about on TS the last few days.
November 3, 2010 at 7:31 pm #77647xdc the docParticipantIm at a conference for a few days – will cu when I get back.
November 4, 2010 at 6:53 pm #77648XDCErratic-SpaceParticipantWould be cool to have you running about with us too Doc. I’d forgotten just how much more fun it is with someone else on TS running about with you, Neon and I are getting pretty handy at it.
November 5, 2010 at 7:25 am #77649xdc magickerParticipanti have been working 24/7 will try and sort my pcs out and get my arse in game
November 5, 2010 at 9:43 am #77650XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantIt would be great if you guys came online for a night. Saturday night during ‘X Factor’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is always a good time for me as the wife’s too engrossed with watching shiny men in tight trousers mincing around to Barry Manilow songs to bother me. But enough about our wedding video.
I’ve played a bit of BFBC2 solo, and it’s not great. Everyone seems to be playing COD and going for a high kill count rather than trying to play as a team. A couple of times just Space and myself working in a coordinated manner has swung the balance of a game, simply because we can communicate and either warn each other or rethink our tactics.
And we have a good laugh, mostly at my ineptitude.
November 5, 2010 at 11:31 am #77651xdc magickerParticipantok sat night it is.. doc will you be back
November 5, 2010 at 6:21 pm #77652xdc the docParticipantNo not till sunday for me.
November 7, 2010 at 5:01 pm #77653xdc magickerParticipantmight get on for a game tonight
