Hey guys,
Was having a wee discussion with Matt regarding getting an XDC Bad Company 2 server.
I’ve done some investigations and for a XDC Branded 32 slot server it’d cost £35 a month from http://www.multiplaygameservers.com/order/game-server/bad-company-2/. I wouldn’t mind chipping in a tenner a month for this but thats prob as far as i could stretch before the Mrs starting eating my testicles lol…
Would anyone else be willing to chip in for a server? Would also allow us to organise team events etc…

£35 a month seemed a bit much to me since I looked into this before, so double checked and I’m not sure where you’re getting that from.
The price is dependant mostly upon the number of slots, and the renewal period. If we take a 12 month lease on a 32 man server, you get the largest saving (20%), with the cost working out at £25.60 for branded.
6 month lease – £27.20
3 month – £28.80
1 month £32Debranding the server costs between 2 and 3 pound a month extra, depending on the renewal period (varying because of the percentage saving).
It costs just shy of a pound per month per slot on average, so one question to address would be what the ideal number of players is for a game (eg bf2 I always felt was better on 24 man servers than 32 or 64).
As for extra’s, it’s not possible to add a TS3 server into the bundle for free, but we could pick up a 32 slot mumble server for free with the 12 month leased server, with less slots for shorter leases.
Yea I agree and if i had a big lump sum of cash that it would take to buy a 12 month leased server i would chip in lol but like i say if my Mrs notices me spending all that cash on a game she’d eat my testicles…
£35 a month was for debranding at £3 a month and a 32 man server with a mumble voice service…
I suppose if we got enough donations to cover the just shy of £300 for a 12 month lease then it’d be great…
Oh yea right, that’s the only combination I didn’t try to get the £35, silly me.
You should go for an initial month, put a lot of effort into playing on it, in order to fill it, then check how things are going before paying for the next month.

I would be willing to stretch to £20 bucks this month if someone else wants to put up the other £15…
We could put a Donate button on the website so that ppl just go through that and put the cash into a paypal account which could be used to pay for the multiplay hosting…
Let me know and I’m more than happy to put money towards this. I’ll cover the £15 no probs. I was thinking about a server of our own the other day myself.

The other thing is what settings does everyone like?
My personal vote would be hardcore damage, FF on, and then all the normal settings on a standard game.
Im not entirely sure what size it needs to be…

i love the idea of having a server again however…
i have noticed that the rats and hussars dont even play on their own servers very often are we sure we will get enough players?
i for one will get on as often as i can but…

Theres a nifty wee way of getting lots of players by putting Noobs in the server name title, i’ve done some investigation and servers with Noobs in the title seem to have a lot more players than other servers…
So with that in mind i propose the server name being “=XDC= Noob beatdown server” or summit lol….
I’d echo Magicker here. I’d hate to see people shelling out for something that doesn’t get much use.
I agree that paying for something that won’t get used is pretty pointless but if we advertise the server on several places and use my patented noob naming system lol i think we may be able to get a few visitors, + there is a few of us playing the game and we could get a few team deathmatches etc against 7DR etc…
