i7 a waste of money for gaming i5 2500k is where its at (since BD failed to deliver). O/c it to 4.5ghz and it’ll last a few years.

NoM I very much doubt you would enjoy it mate its a bit quick 🙂 Tactics can be used really well if you find yourself on a good server though.

Had a quick play on campaign during my ‘lunch’ break and the single played so far could be COD

I7 has something that only bf3 utilises, whether or not you’d notice is anyones guess

Only thing i can think i7 has extra to the i5 would be HT? Never realised it was implemented in BF3.

Good if do do any encoding though

Aye thats it, hyper threading which BF3 supports.. Do you reckon you’ll notice a change against the 2500?

i might knock the solid state off…..and go for an led backlit monitor instead

quicker loading times dont bother me…..im still gonna get shot just as quick !

the only thing that caught my eye in there was batman for free…..so thanks for letting me know its ok 😀

I’d go for the 580 and get a normal HDD as McQ said, or a lesser sized/priced SSD for OS and a secondary SATA drive…

I’m inbetween these two but with 60GB SSD and GTX 580 – (possibly upgrading to another for SLi further down the road)

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-176-OE – Z68 board

Both of which when adding the above are cheaper!

I just cant decide which one to get between the two 🙁

Nice spec Sprogster!!! I would personally go for a 60Gb SSD especially those Crucial M4’s which have just had a firmware update which has increased the overall speed by 70%. I would also bin that WD Drive and replace with a Samsung Spinpoint F1 – 1Tb hhd around the same price. These things fly and are pretty bullet proof from reviews and ratings I’ve been reading recently.

I’m in the market soon for a new pc but dont have anywhere near your budget but I reckon I can build a half decent machine based on the i5- 2500k for around the £500 mark if i do my homework and shop around 😉

Mike go with the Z68 one which should futureproof you for a while and should support the new Ivybridge Processors being released next year. Although knowing Intel, the will change to socket architecture just to get you to by an new mobo!! 👿

Cheers Lammie, I needed that.. I know wolf mentioned it before but couldnt find the post, more heads = better decision to me 🙂

I’ll see if OC will change the vertex for the Crucial drive.. will have to stick with the 500gb WD blue though as dont want it to cost too much more.. its already over my CC limit. ho hum

Is it in any way shape or form like BC2?

    Is it anything like bf42/bf2?

Yes on both counts Nom, but so far what I’ve seen carried over from BC2 has been a general improvement. I’ve been debating whether you would like it all day because it does feel much more like a classic BF game than BC2 did but there are also still elements about it I don’t think you like. Could you remind me though what you thought about BF2 when it was out, and maybe what it was about bf42 that you’re actually looking for out of a game?
