Ive got a mate who wants to set up a wireless network in his new flat… He said he was interested in AOL… Ive told him not to go near them with a barge pole… whos good at the moment? I think he wants to get satellite TV, so not sure the cable package is best… he will also be paying the first 6 months by himself, so needs to be cheapish, with upgradeability…
Would you boys be so good as to shout out what you have, and how much it costs etc…

erm, if he’s getting SKY TV, isn’t that bundled with free broadband nowadays, and if he wants to spend a little extra, you can get a “up to” 16MB uncapped Line.

I wonder what the fair usage policy for the 16mb one is… and are SKY shitty with semi legal downloads?!
Is that available with sky products everywhere? Farly certain you have to live in an area where the exchange is already unbundled

From what little i’ve heard it’s free service gives you upto 2MB with a 2GB limit per month. Anything more will cost, though even the 16mb was showing at about £16 which is very cheap. (not sure how accurate the article was when i read it) Would add though that its not worth getting carried away with with max speeds been shown as firstly you are not likely to get them and secondly a fast line doesn’t make it any more stable. Try looking up articles about adslmax which is the biggest pile of crap that i’ve had the misfortune to buy.

I hear that a lot of uk providers are packet shaping torrents during peak hours (which ironically I heard from a torrent of a newsnight feature on torrent) but are they doing anything else?
Incidentally the newsnight feature showed how do get round that so pm if you need.

The sites aren’t illegal – it’s the d/l ing that’s illegal (in some cases).

I’ve registered my interest though. I’m with Pipex at the moment and although shit customer service the connection has always been steady and reliable so I might go with their £27.49 package which is up to 8MB + free unlimited phone calls anywhere in UK
I’ve been thinking about that Sky broadband so if anyone does get it let us know how it is.
Only thing which puts me off is the experience I’ve had with Sky tv. The customer service is an absolute joke.

Upto 16mb for £10 a month !! That sounds too good to be true, or sky are looking to take over the broadband market and create a monopoly (obviously not the sort of practice you’d expect from them 😉 )
Its built on the existing Easynet infrastructure so probably worth reading up on how good/bad they were before sky bought them.
i had a look at the terms and conditions, and it doesn’t say anything about needing to be a top package subscriber, just a TV subscribtion.
