“It’s the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We’re always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something.” Says Graham (played by Don Cheadle) just after he’s been involved in a car crash. Here’s what I said just after I was involved in a car crash:
“Wha…? Fuck. Jesus. Julie… Are you okay? Fuck… Jesus… Yeah I think I’m okay. I’m going to pass out for a bit…”
Aside from the sightly strange opening dialogue above (Don’s not mine) this film turns out to be a bit of a winner, with lots of twists and turns with some good characters. There’s lots of racism of all kinds and crazy gun-totting shenanigans that make for an unpredictable, bouncy ride of emotions. But don’t take my word for it, let’s check it out on the NeonSamurai ‘is it a good film’ checklist:
1) Is Norman Wisdom in it? – Sadly, no
2) Is there a lesbian scene in it? – No, but Sandra Bullock gets a bit too friendly with her housemaid IMHO
3) Is there a car chase? – Yes. It’s low speed, but fun none-the-less
4) Do people run away from a big explosion? – Yes
5) Does Thandie Newton get touched up? – Yes
6) Does Thandie Newton say “I’m a bloody thief!” – Sadly, no
Okay, so the checklist might not make it look so good (3.5 out of a possible 6 points) but regardless of such an average score, Crash is a film I heartily recommend.
