    just a heads up, I tried explaining this to Doc at the time, but he seemed sceptical, but basically, if you’re thinking of buying a HDD or SSD (less so the SSD’s though) wait a few months.

    some of you may recall the flooding in Thailand last month (it didn’t get much press over here but I spoke to my sister in law’s mum in Bangok (she’s Thai) and she said it was pretty biblical. Anyway, long story short, most HDD manufacturers have premises near Bangkok and one in particular which provides something like 80% of the motors used in HDDs were pretty badly damaged and now, as a result of shortages, speculation and profiteering there has been an average of 5% price increases a day since the flooding (http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2011/11/25/disk_drive_pricing/).

    shortages expected to last a year, so they’ll keep going up
