On the topic of overclocking i may clock my Athlon x2 4200 to see what it can do. i have decent cooling on that so should be ok. (currently temps dont go above 55ish).

I’d be careful, I am overclocking mine now (out of necessity more than anything else) and have temperatures of about 30 – 40, maxing out at about 46. Anything above this and it starts to become unstable. I am fairly sure it’s not the chip as the last chip I O/ced did the same.

Is that on the same processor as mine?
FWIW.. i had an XP3000+ (single core) in my media pc, vista was hammering the processor and causing it to run at 100%.. anyway long story short.. i had turned off the bios’s thermal protection because the pc was crashing (i.e. saving the cpu) so the temp was hitting 120 degrees, at which point the cpu its self shutdown to save its self.. i guess my point is that while its probably not a good idea to go anywhere near 100degrees… it seems the processor can take a bit of abuse. 😈 👿 .. i now have a 4200+ X2 in the media pc now as well.. (i think the high temps may have been a compatibility issue between the mobo bios and the 3000+ processor)…
anyhoo.. im reading up on exactly what knobs to tweak to oc. since im not a hardened o/c er.
