Rather than take Recoil’s thread completely off course i thought i’d just start a new one to ask beer the question, what’s it like?
Expensive.
I dropped £100 for 10 short SP levels. It does look really, really promising.

Anyway, what’s the combat like so far Beer, and how to you rate the potential for clan based pvp? In particular is there space which can be conquered, or can you establish your own bases about the place? Also can you land on planets like in the original series (at least you could in Elite Final Frontier), and do they have jump drives like the original where you plot you destination with the distance you can jump being controlled by the type of jump drive you have and the amount of fuel you carry, or are the systems gated like in Eve or Freelancer? Also do you travel around solar systems freely and is there much to explore in a system? Oh and how big do the systems feel?

reminds Al it has just gone into beta…..planets landings are planned I know that
It’s not in Beta yet, 30th May.
From what I can gather on numerous forms, the game is both single player (PVE) or multiplayer (PVP). It’s not about conquering space as such, more of trading, pirating, bountyhunting, exploring. As signal mentioned, it has been confirmed planetary landings will feature in the full game. I think there are various drives at your disposal such as hyperspace & galactic, but I’ve had no dealings with these yet as I only have access to a very early alpha version that is a pretty basic single player combat version. The people that played silly money have access to a later alpha version that has the docking facility and the ability to travel to a few star systems and this in extensively reviewed in a boat load of YouTube vids. Not sure of the scale of the systems, but there has been mention of how the universe is being accurately mirrored and there will be over 400 BILLION star systems to visit, how this works ingame is yet to be unveiled.

Watched a lot of videos and like the game play – think I’m going to be a dirty little cloaking narcotic running pirate
New write up in PCGame, nothing particually new….but the countdown begins 🙂

Of you go light years off the beaten path, and then leave, will that system remain the way you found it? Also, can you drop a base or structure there and have it persist when you’re not there?
