I need help with Excel again ffs!
I am trying to enter numbers into the cells, e.g. 2.5 times 10 to the 8, so I am entering it as 2.5 x 10 superscript 8. It displays it correctly but won’t do any fecking calculations, which leads me to believe I am entering the numbers in an incorrect format. How do I do it properly?

try shift +6 (^) between the number you want to raise the power to and the power, eg 2.5 * 10^8.

Can’t be sure it works, but that is a genuine expression

I can’t do that as I then need to c&p it into a Word doc, and I need it to be written with a x 10 superscript 🙁

oh, then you’ll have to either go through the excel document changing the x10 super etc to ^ to get excel to work or go through the cut and pasted Word document and chnge the ^ to x 10 superscript. Cant do it any other way (you could make an auto correct to change ^ to x 10 superscript, but I’m not sure you can even do that!)

Can’t you embed (link) the Excel spreadsheet in the Word doc to save you the cut & paste?

Sure the c&p was the easy bit 😆

Vic, you have asked for scat play a thousand times, but I have never yet acquiesced, so don’t lie – I never poo-pooed you ❗

There’s no function in any software I know of that displays numbers in that superscript format. I might be able to create a button in Word, perhaps, to convert ^ numbers into superscripts, but that could be more work for me than it would be for you to do it manually in the first place.

To make any formula work in Excel, you have to start the cell with an equals sign ‘=’.

Cheers Fenix, I knew the = bit, it’s the rest of it that eludes me. It’s done now anyway, thank God!
