Was it you that got your laptop from America? I’m tempted to get one myself but I’m not sure about how to get around customs etc. Do you have to buy a different power cable?
I’m in America in another 2 weeks, so I might buy one then, but chris reckons even if I post it home to myself as a gift I’ll get shafted with taxes.

i bought most of the components of my pc about 2 years ago when i was in the states on a business trip (CPU, MOBO, RAM and 2 GFX cards – so not exactly thing that you can hide 🙂 ). i packed them up and into my suit case and nothing happened, although i know i was extremely lucky. as for a laptop, i cant imagine any way of you getting into trouble as you take it as carry on luggage onto the plane in a laptop bag and there is almost no way of anyone proving that you had recently purchased it without going into a lot of trouble. laptops are so common these days that noone raises an eyebrow to them being taken on flights. if possible take a used/worn in laptop bag with you inside your other bag when you go over.
as for the cable i couldnt be certain but im sure Doc will answer that one.Cheers Hippo, I hadn’t thought about just taking it out of all the packaging and bringing it with me as hand luggage, ace idea 😀
