This is a manga movie and you might need to watch it twice to understand what’s going on. Basically it’s the future and there’s these ‘pleasure robots’ that go apeshit and start killing people, so it’s down to the special police unit Section 9 to find out why. It’s a sequel to an earlier movie, that you do kind of need to watch, otherwise you’ll be wondering who the major is.

Bit of a weird one really that veers between arthouse (it can be slow) to John Woo style gunplay (when they pay a visit to the Yakuzza). There’s lots of prophetic analogies and references to the bible, when they’re trying to be all deep and meaningful, but no worse than some other manga stuff. I personally like the whole cyberpunk feel of the movie, with people having their brains hacked, limbs replaced and mind to mind communication.

    7/10

Saw this a while ago. Couldnt really recommend it myself… kind of dissapears up its own arse at times, but the animation is very good.

this is the sequel isnt it? the first one is far better as it explains a lot of the backstory behind the “ghost” who helps out the detectives.

i have it on DVD and would agree with the 7/10 score however the first one i would give a 9/10
