My flatmates gf wants to get a laptop max price £500 mainly to word process on and surf, and be future proof etc, and also have good tech support/warranty etc.
Who are good atm? Id have thought Dell and Mesh, but i dont know much about laptops.
Any suggestions?

How quick are they on tech support/warranties when going abroard… remember this isnt for me but my mates gf – and she will probably take my advice!
September 30, 2006 at 10:23 am #34717XDCiNSANEParticipantFor what she wants to do with it, I’d suggest Dell lattitude, Toshiba or HP for ease of Drivers and less hassle
no need for High end malarky for what shes gonna use it for..
Bear in mind though, laptops are pretty shite for upgrading.. unless its HDD or Mem :/
September 30, 2006 at 10:29 am #34718sebgrosParticipanttoshiba are cheap but they usualy fall appart …look on ebay the huge number of tosh laptops for sale for spare ..

tech support is fine – they can ship u parts if u wanna fit it yourself… but it would be a major pain in the ass in if you needed to send it back for some reason.
Dot buy a toshiba!
September 30, 2006 at 11:20 am #34720TurksMeisterParticipantYeh, I had a toshiba laptop and wasnt very happy with it…
October 1, 2006 at 7:25 pm #34721XDC MadHippyParticipantI’ve got Tosh, HP, Dell & IBM laptop qualifictions – Dell kit is OK but support is shit. Some Tosh laptops are really good whilst others are shit. IBM ain’t bad and support is reasonable. I’ve got a HP NC6000 and it’s been really good (I treat it badly) For the money you want to spend you’d be looking at dell, acer etc
Anyhoos, You have premium support right here!!!

October 2, 2006 at 1:53 am #34723RecoilUKParticipantCould try an Asus from Scan.
Or one of these, specs look good enough …

Just an idea.

Cool – cheers
But do you get tech support when buying through companies like scan?
October 2, 2006 at 8:13 pm #34725RecoilUKParticipantTo be honest m8, i,ve never had anything go wrong with them.
But on occasions when I have talked to them or sent emails, they have allways responded within 24hrs.
