Ive got a spare HD… I cant be arsed to fuck around inside my PC, so want to get an inclosure… are some better than others, or should i base it on cosmetics?

Some have fans… is that important?

Its a seagate Barrracuda 7200.10 320gb… if that makes any difference?

    cheers

I think a company called ‘Icy Box’ do one, i use it as an enclosure for work, im assuming its a standard IDE hard drive? I know ICY BOX do encloruses for Sata and i think iv seen one for standard ones too

if it looks like this its an IDE:

if it dosnt, and theres two flattish slot ports, then its a SATA, the HDD shld have a white label on it somewhere which may have IDE or SATA written on it

yup u got an IDE drive, search for an ICY BOX that handles IDE drives, not SATA, the connectors wont fit if you get a enclosure for a SATA,

prolly a bit late now… but ive got both the ide and sata icy boxes. i likey them v muchly. very handy.

as for whether there is much difference between external exclosures, i dont think so.

depends on the looks and the connection requirements i guess.. you got a choice of usb / firewire / (e)Sata.

im using the external sata with a 500gb samsung spinpoint disk as the main disk for my work pc, and its fookin brill.. well its the same as having the disk in the machine proper really. but i can power down and take it home too 😉

    so .. in summation..

    BADGER BADGER BADGER whoo hoooooo!!

hope that clears things up 😉
