Yeah rgr… I knew the intel dual core are the fastest. Alot more pricey to.. But alas that’s going to be my next comp 🙂
I have a tier in my eye just thinking about leaving my trusty amd to intel.
to be honest the diff is minimal in games, now if you wanna encode while gameing cd2 is the way to go……your best of waiting for a while..
if you have a x3800 clock the bitch it reguarly hits 2.7/8
lots of ppl have upgraded their gameing rig to find that the fps gains are small, if you have a half decent rig i’d hold on. 😉

I agree with the wise overclocker n0m.
I upgraded recently from a Socket A Athlon XP2800+ (just over 2 Ghz), to a Pentium D 820 (2.8 Ghz), the later being a dual processor chip. My machine boots about 10 seconds faster and 2142 probably loads about 5 seconds faster, but that’s about it (although I’ve not run any thorough tests).
But the machine’s a little cutie if I want to run a couple of apps at the same time, providing it’s nothing too intense. I imagine ripping a DVD to DivX whilst playing 2142 might cause problems, but browsing and or studying art whilst ripping is pretty sweet.

Tis good advice but tbh there isnt a good time to hold on….cos even if you do hold on, chances are that whatever you wait to get will be out dated a couple of months later anyway.Computer technology is moving way too fast now to think”ill wait for quad core” cos a few months down the line cpu`s with 6 cores are out.If you want it buy it….lifes to short for waiting about. 🙄

the gains for gaming arent quite there yet…some games on the horizon will use duo core..but at the mo you arnt going to see a massive boost in framerates…..what games are you going to play? some games need cpu power others gfx, what rez do u play in? 1600×1200 get agfx with 512
if money is no object then fine, but if your expecting a massive increase in games, you may be slightly dissapointed 😕
