Hi all
I’m looking in to getting a media centre PC as the laptop we have been using (linked via HDMI) is buggered and slow to set up. While I have a killer PC myself, I want something my wife can download media on to (torrents!) Without worrying about her fucking it up (clicking shit!)
I want it to be either always on, or quick to start
Silent/fanless
CheapI have a smart TV which can connect to media servers but worried it would lag. Do I want a wireless media HD or
A PC directly connected ? Stream the stuff straight to TV and removes need to have a PC built for the task. You don’t need to bother with torrents and you get a front end like a media centre without the need to download the stuff first.
Even my old man can use it with his tablet and he’s fecking useless with tech.

March 24, 2016 at 10:50 am #8741411thSignalParticipantWell there’s a couple, if you have android download “showbox” which pulls in the streams into a media/Netflix type frontend, has adverts in it but not many and never during the programme or film or you can download Kodi and then install Exodus plugin for it which has no adverts but is more of a fiddle to get working (although I can talk you through that/ plenty of install guidelines on youtube for this) Kodi gets everything first then SHowbox gets them the day after, Kodi also can be configured to get all the pay per view sports channels as well (sky sports, espn etc)

I read you can either connect via HDMI or with some screen mirror add-on for the TV (Sony), but wireless can lag. I also have a Samsung phone- is there a way to have her old phone (which has a fucked battery) plugged in via HDMI and to the mains and then remotely download using my phone connected to hers?
March 24, 2016 at 3:52 pm #87416TurksMeisterParticipantWow… This new search engine called Google really helped me out…http://gs3.wonderhowto.com/how-to/turn-old-galaxy-s3-other-android-device-into-streaming-media-player-0155025/
March 27, 2016 at 2:52 pm #87417TurksMeisterParticipantSO I have Kodi and Exodus and it seems pretty cool, but the video stutters too noticeably to be able to watch it. Could this be the S3 not being fast enough (RAM wise?)… The phone is about 2 meters from the wireless router, and I have hard wired the phone to the TV via a 11pin mhl to hdmi.
Quick fact – with the phone connected to the tv via HDMI, I can control kodi with the Sony TV repote… Mind Blown.
