Participantso splashed out a bit and bought myself a computer capable of running BF3 and BFBC2 at more than 10 fps (which was roughly my average on low settings, and I can now run BFBC2 on high settings with everything turned on at 80 – 90 fps. This has to be the first time in a long while I can actually play BF games at a level of detail they were designed at, I’m pretty excited about it!
core i3 2100
asrock z68 pro3
8 GB 1600 DDR3 ram.Anyway, the core i3 2100 is dual core, but with hyperthreading it still manages to beat the pants of most of AMD quad cores, Sandybridge which is low end I know, but I did make sure I got a decent motherboard with the z68 chipset so I can upgrade to core i7’s in the future (sandybridge or the upcoming ivybridge)when they become more reasonable. It also has the abilitiy to cache your games or whatever files on a small cheap SSD which can apparently improve performance quite significantly without installing your OS on a seperate SSD, or install an OS on an SSD and use any space left over to cache whatever games you are playing, it’s all very clever and the reviews seem to be positive, but I’m not using that just yet. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4329/intel-z68-chipset-smart-response-technology-ssd-caching-review/1
I paid £234 for the above which is a decent sum for something that I can easily upgrade with a new processor in the coming couple of years, I’m quite happy with it, but I’m sure Doc will point out some errors in my purchasing like a clock locked processor which I can’t OC (I rarely OC anyway, so I’m not that fussed), but rest assured, I went with a system I could upgrade at a cheap price.

ParticipantWas thinking of getting this, but tbh I am a bit out of the game when it comes to PC internals so have no ideaa if this is new or old or if theres something better out there (Except the rumoured Bulldozer chip from AMD)

It makes my head hurt looking for new internals

Participantyo mike, you’d probably be better getting a Sandybridge processor, read this helpful review of processors
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-sandy-bridge-cpu,review-32284.html
I would also recommend a socket 1155 motherboard with the z68 chipset for upgrading potential right up[ to core i7 and certainly not the socket 1136 that you’ve got there.

I really want to play in full on this delightfull looking game and might even get rid of my Nvidia 460GTX which is months old to get a 5**GTX or whatever it is.. ooo expensive decisions indeed
