Now that I have t’internet i have been able to fulfil a dream i have had for over a year…. doing a clean XP install! (I couldn’t consider it before with dial up for updates.)

Now this should be easy…. totally box fresh install of a legit OS… what could go wrong?

Well – all was well until I tried to update netframework to 1.1… failed to update…. no error message… no explanation. This happens to be necessary for updating media centre too it seems.

Looking in google… people have been having this issue since 2007!!!!!!!! Why the hell is this a problem for me in 2009? I swear i would buy a Mac if it sorted out its role as a game platfrom. Overpriced poncy shite… but seems a hell of a lot more user friendly.

PS – if any one can offer advice re this i would be grateful. I have tried a few suggestions from the net but they don’t work. Emailed microsoft for support… god knows how long that will take.

This is why since Windows 98 I have used “more conveniently priced” versions.

I pay for XBOX Live, so my conscience is clear 😆

How are you updating Doc? I can’t remember what I was doing the first couple of times I reinstalled xp, but I did have a similar problem once. Now there is no logical reason for why this might resolve your problem, but ever since I started using the windows update site and using the express button to “get high priority updates” I’ve not had a problem updating windows. You just run through the process several times until it decides you’ve had enough (takes a couple of hours from scratch).

Yeah alzir – thats the problem… I used the windows update service from the start… when that didnt work I downloaded manually…. still no joy.

I don’t agree with piracy Tooth because you want the product and its continued development but you aint prepared to pay for it. Thats an untenable situation if you take it to the extreme of EVERYONE pirating. The frustration here is that they have a monopoly… if apple or linux tried to break the stranglehold for gamers then we would see some changes!

    vista ftw
    Have never looked back

What i dont understand is why the linux community dont get game support sorted.. This is probably the biggest lock in have with windows if i could get games and linu i would probably move over.

Howeve there would be a mutiny if the kids couldnt play the same games as their mates

    Hi

I,m on vista also, but from what I can remember about xp, arent there 2 versions of update software from microsoft?

One is Windows Update and the other is for updating all microsoft programs, just cant remember its name, may be microsoft update, if you go to the windows update site, there should be a link to it, you may want to give that a go also.

    Hope it helps.

Vista 64bit, before sp1 it was a pain in the arse, after sp2 it’s been fine, cant imagine using anything else. Everything works fine all my games run fine(still the odd glitch from BF2142), Consoles are for ladyboys 😆
