I’ve got a 350D too – really nice piece of kit.

Think I’ll give this HDR thing a try – looks fun.

Don’t mention tripods to my wife – she doesn’t understand why I have more than one. The phrase “oh no, not another bloody tripod” is quite frequently heard around the house….

what version of photoshop would i need to do these HDR pics with ? I took 3 photos last night at different exposures and would like to give it a go but i only have paint shop pro 9 on my pc which as far as i can see doesn’t support HDR. 😕

I’m sure i have an older version of photoshop somewhere that someone sent me ages ago…..failing that, do you know of any free software that would allow me to get the same results ?

    😀

    There’s a freebie from HDRSoft:
    http://www.hdrsoft.com/download/basic_win.php

Not used it myself yet, so it may be rubbish.

I *think* that only the Professional editions of Photoshop to HDR, but I’m by no means positive on this.

    ***EDIT***
Just tried the freebie on a couple of images I had that just happened to be different exposures. They were taken hand-held so did not exactly match up. But despite this, the software did quite a good job. Haven’t got time to post the results (and the scene was a bit boring anyway 🙂 ), but I would say it is worth giving the HDRSoft freebie a go.

    pm sent…..

I’ve been messing with that proggie that lensman put a link up for this morning…..

I took 7 pics, beginning with 0EV then going up to +0.7EV,+1.3EV,+2.0EV then down to -0.7EV,-1.3EV and finally -2.0EV. Loaded them up in the photomatix proggie and allowed it to do its magic with the HDR.the result was a washed out picture where the whites were too overexposed! I reduced some of the settings in the global mapper settings and to be honest the best result was very similar to the pic i took initially at around the 0EV setting….

What i have noticed is that once i’ve saved the image as a 16bit TIFF file there doesn’t seem to be as much pixellation when i zoom into the image; is this expected ?

I really need to get outside and take some outdoor shots to probably really see the benefit, the shots were taken of my living room so that is no doubt not the best subject to try it out on.

Guess we shall need our own photographic forum soon 😉
