OK the hardcore question needs some discussion, although I know we’ve covered it before, but hey it gives us something to argue about ๐
Firstly, I’ve read through the previous discussion taking everyone’s argument onboard, and it would seem that we were generally in agreement regarding everything except for 3d spotting. Space put up a good post on page 6 of that thread where he said kill cam off, friendly fire on, mini map on, and spotting on, and there was a lot of support for his argument on spotting.
I REALLY would like this on. It’s one of the points the new game was sold on from what I hear? I recognise that some don;’t like this as they feel sniping becomes too easy but I’d agrue that it makes killing snipers easier too. Again it also leads to better team play in that you can work together to flank the other side etc
Now I’m in agreement, but Doc and Silversides posted good points regarding 3d spotting in particular.
There is an option to keep spotting on, but have 3d spotting off, and with this you can use the main map to find the spotted target but you won’t see the orange triangle above their head. I agree with the sentiment that 3d spotting is a great part of the game, but I also agree there are annoying drawbacks to it, and one of these (which Silversides brought up) is that it makes it harder to be a sneaky bastard, which I do like to be. It is also true that people can spam the spot button and the game will often pick up targets far away who you’ve not actually seen, so the compromise of spotting on, but 3d spotting off, is one I could live with.
There was also general agreement regarding hardcore damage being on, and this too I would be happy with.
There would remain a question on whether to keep crosshairs on or off, which is one I’d like to open for discussion, as I’m a little indifferent on it. Cross hairs on don’t make much of a difference for me as infantry, although it does affect engineer and possibly assault more than it would medic. The setting has more significance for Vehicles, making them significantly more more powerful, but as this would include choppers, I’m quite happy to have them turned off. I really have no preference either way but, since I know a few people definitely prefer them off, I’ll state that as a starting position.
No point posting a poll with this one, as there are so many variables, but is a discussion required, or does that all sound good?

isHardcore = true
infoFriendlyFire = true
infoAutoBalance = true
infoKillCam = false
infoMiniMap = true
infoCrosshair = false
info3DSpotting = false
infoMiniMapSpotting = true
info3PersonVehicleCameras = falseThe weird thing is that if you change any of those from the original settings the server will be listed as hardcore, regardless of whether HC is on or not, just the way EA have set the server filters in the latest server update. They do plan on colour coding them to normal, modified and hardcore, but at the moment if killcam is off it’s regarded as a hardcore server, which explains a lot recently!
January 19, 2011 at 6:02 pm #78276xdc the docParticipantYeah I like those settings.
Spotting is good… 3d spotting is bad. Very easy to hit the map key and see what is about if your team mates are spotting for you.
January 20, 2011 at 2:46 pm #78277bmstalkerParticipantI have to say, no matter what the server type/rules I will still play on it. It’s not that important. I prefer 3d spotting and cross hairs to be active. It’s not a deal breaker, so I will be happy regardless.
January 20, 2011 at 6:03 pm #78278xdc the docParticipantIm not too bothered re the crosshairs business to be honest…. it is a bit stupid how you can’t use machine guns properly without them…
If you could have vehicle crosshairs but not on infantry that would be ideal… but that would be too sensible.
February 8, 2011 at 5:37 pm #78279AlzirKeymasterIโm confused following a conversation with Gonzo the other day regarding the hardcore settings we have on the server. According to him if hardcore damage is selected on the server, it overrides the minimap settings, preventing us from tailoring HC to the way we previously agreed. This would explain why minimap is not on throughout the majority of our rounds, but Iโm confused why the first play of Hastings always has the minimap and HC damage appears to be off? From the second round, and on all subsequent maps/rounds, full HC settings apply for some reason. As far as I can see, I canโt tailor the settings for individual maps ๐
Anyway, while I sort this out, the server name is not quite accurate, but itโs pretty bland anyway, so I wondered whether anyone else has some better suggestions?

I’m all for no Crosshairs and 3d spotting off ๐ One of the most annoying things of crosshairs in COD was hip firing, which every fecker did, your more often than not going to get killed before you can right click to set iron sites in a battle with a hip firing ghey
3D off will make me look at the map more
