For the first time in about a week I shut down, amd switched her on again a few seconds later but nothing loads. I don’t even see the loading stuff where you can normally get into the bios. Any ideas what might have happened?

Nevermind, I opened the side of it and stared intently at the inner workings of the box, wondering what I was looking for. I then went to make a coffee, and came back to find windows was loading.

This is happening again, so i’ll be patient and stare at it for a while but does anyone have an idea what might be going on?

is the BIOS POST screen appearing? i.e is the pc detecting the components or is it getting beyond that and then doing nothing?

It was just not doing anything. The lights were coming on, as were the fans, and I could hear the HD’s power up, but the usual beeps on startup didn’t happen and nothing appeared on screen.

Last time it happened it fixed itself, this time I tried reseating the RAM, and that worked. Hope it was just a loose connection and not something on it’s way out.

for future reference if you check the mobo manual you can often get an idea as to the issue by listening to the beeps as they change if there is a problem.

glad its sorted though as there is few things more annoying than a PC that doesn’t boot

Aye cheers, I didn’t know the beeps could be used to pinpoint a problem, although in this case there were none at all.

bios beeps are the first port of call in diagnosing motherboard issues, have a check of these:

hmm I dunno, I vaguely remember talking to paddy about it on TS, and it sounded like he had made that post, so I had assumed your reply here was taking the piss out of paddy’s double post.
