Dr Impossible, world renowned super villain is having a bad day in his maximum security cell in the subterranean penal colony, when two young superheroes turn up and try to scare him into telling them what happened to Corefire, the worlds’ greatest hero who’s gone missing. The Doctor is not best pleased to be threatened by two kids and so begins the story.
When I first saw adverts for Soon I will be Invincible I wondered why it was a novel, and not a comic. The reality is that it’s really a story about motivations, so most of the dialog is internal (like Dr Impossible describing his typical day as a super villain). To be honest I found myself cheering for the bad guy in this story, rather than the team of vain, self important heroes out to try and stop him. He’s by far the best character in the story, which thunders along at quite a pace, but is always interesting (how to super villains get to be super villains, by starting of as small time crooks and working their way up).
Ending wasn’t what I wanted, but it was still pretty good.
