I just got back from seeing this (was @ 18:00 showing)

Pretty good film, a few plot twists here and there and it’s reasonably well polished… but… I didn’t enjoy it as much as the original or the 2nd…

Don’t get me wrong it’s got everything that intheory should work, but it felt like I was sat there forever waiting for it to end, whereas the others I wanted them to last forever. They spend too much time on character introduction – showing us where the familiar faces ended up and the events surrounding the new faces that by the time that lot’s over there is about 15 mins of film left for the cool stuff!!

Then the cool stuff… not as cool as it could or probably should have been. I wasn’t impressed with the big badass fight at the end, mostly because it wasn’t badass. It was kinda lame and failed to upstage the prior battle scenes even with 2 enemies FFS =/

This saddens me in more ways than one – as a comic book geek as a child I grew up reading these stories and I also enjoyed the animated series a decade ago as a teenager too – the venom saga was probably my favourite of the lot. Granted they were always going to do some bullshit movie bastardisation claiming to make the film better and having twice as many enemies to fight as usual should have kept him on his toes, but as I said before in dealing with these characters so people know who the fuck they are they had little time for much else. I think if they cut out the sandman altogether then it would have allowed more time to actually make the film entertaining. Was he even really needed? I won’t give you any spoilers but once you’ve watched it you will see the events that make him and who he is will seem like more than coincidence but a stinking fat pile of unlikely bullshit!!

Venom on his own was more of a match for spiderman in other media – he assimilated all of his powers and memories but improved upon them and could also block out his spider sense, but in the 2 minutes we see of him before he blows up, that shit just doesn’t happen.

Overall, it’s still an OK film though and the kids will love it even if they don’t understand the story just because of the fight scenes and funny bits but if you’ve followed the movie series, or to a greater extent spiderman through comics and cartoons then you will end up disappointed.

    6/10

After watching this I must say that a cross twixt a man and a spider has to be the best combination of human/insect abilities for fighting crime. Obviously only if you take the strengths and not the weaknesses. Getting eaten by your own young and breathing through your arse wouldn’t be great.

Unlike Insane, I thought Emo Spidey was cool, although it would have been funnier if he started whining about not feeling alive, moped around a lot more and had a crap Myspace page where he blogged about utter shite like most kids today do.

Today Peter Parker Wrote: “I feel so empty inside. It’s like I have no heart, no soul just an empty void filled with pain. Although I am me, I wonder who I am.”

Today NeonSamurai responded: “I’ll tell you who you are, you’re a twat.”

My god Emo’s are cool, although I’m cooler as proven by that stuff I made up about myself above. As cool as Spidey 3 was, it did have some down points too. 1) Mary-Jane’s looking a bit skraggy. 2) The other bird that Emo Parker pulls doesn’t look like she’d put out. 3) The Slovakian girl was probably a goer but looked too gangly. 4) Predictable ending.

I say it was predictable because I knew that it was Venom who’d killed uncle Ben whilst he’d possesed some other guy who was the astronaut that Mary-Jane Skragathon had been humping when she didn’t know Peter Parker was Spidey. But then I had seen the trailers and understood what was happening. And Parker turning out to be his own dad, did kind of make sense.

8 out of 10. Not as good as the first 2, but still pretty good.
