    Hi guys

Something seems very odd with my pc’s temps recently and today. I had my game crash a couple of times and wondered what the problem was and it seems all the tempertures are right up.

When I first put it together the cpu was idling at around 22’c – 26′ and maxing out around 45’c under full load and 38’c ilde for gfx card and 55’c underload.

now its idling around 50’c and uynder load it went up past 75’c! with my racing game running. which doesnt sound good at all!

I thought may be the cpu fan had broken and wasnt turning, but turned off and back on again and its still running ok.

seems very odd for it to suddenly jump up like this?

I have the stock intel HSF, 2 rear case fans and theres 2 fans and a massive heatsink on my gfx card.

Is it only your CPU overheating ? What temps the graphics card at ?
If it’s only cpu you may want to check the clips holding the heatsink onto the motherboard is fully secured, if it’s not then heat from cpu not going to get to heatsink properly and it will overheat
If you have some spare thermal compound you could remove heatsink, clean cpu and heatsink and reapply some thermal compound and then put back together.

Also worthwhile checking that your bios settings are all set to defaults( ie – no overclocking or extra voltage to your components )

    Found the problem.

The heatsink clips have come lose! wtf it was a bastard to install the dam HSF to start with.

I mean whoever came up with the socket 775 HSF mounting design needs to be shot!

Bring back the Socket 478 HSF mounting design, two big levers that you push down and your done. easy peasy!

anyway remounted the HSF again and cpu temps back down to ilding at 19’c until the next time!
