Ok, question for all our IT gurus, I am soon to finish my contract (of 22 years!) and although employed in IT for the past 6 years am looking for a new direction (within IT).

Now I have been looking at CCNA (Cisco) and MCSA/E (Microsoft) but to be honest not really sure what to do, anyone with words of wisdom and advice? Any other areas that are interesting and available?

Anyone work as a Network Engineer/System Admin?

Not really too bothered about being paid less than I am now as I understand that I lack the experience etc.

Cisco and Sun qualification pay better than MCSE mate. MCSE is good to have but the others will earn ya more dosh. another up and coming earner is virtualization – Get to know vmware esx and gsx server.

Don’t look for a job tho cos I need one!!

    😉

    Dubs,

I employ around 30 CCIE’s and CCNA’s, and the pay for them defintely is very good.
Also you may want to check JCIE (Juniper) since those are even getting paid better.

However , please do bear in mind it is a different ballgame to change from true IT to WAN-Networking.
