Although I get free tech support, I kind of want to get this sorted without calling them… partly due to it taking about 2 weeks for the fuckers to get here (and then having to miss a day of work because “they will come between 6am and 6pm…!” but also because of the vast quantities fo “Art” and pirate software scattered accross my desktop!
Anyhoo… when I turn my pc on, it gets up to the windows logo and scrolling bar thing… and then resets over and over again…. I have checked the bios and CPU is usually at about 55*c and 39*C Mobo… The case fan and CPU fan seem to be working ok – I have just had a little dust thoughl so they should be a bit better.
However, when I opened the old case up, the graphics card fan was making a strange ticking sound (ie its hitting something, and it didnt seem to be going around too fast – although I am not entirely sure how fast a GPU fan is meant to go!)… I have also had a few crashes recently whilst playing COD2 … where the monitor fails to pick up a signal, and then the PC reboots…
Does this sound like a GPU prob to you? (It does to me, but then Im no wizz at all this lark!)… Unfortunatly it being a MESH PC, it has some stupid lock mechinism holding the GPU down so I cant get a closer look…
Am I right in thinking though, that I can rule out the GPU issue by using the onboard graphics and dissabling my graphics card…. that would ofcouse give me enough time to delete all the goat porn before the geeks arrived!

yes and yes.
Try it and see, it certainly sounds like it could be GPU related, and even if it isnt and using the onboard graphics still results in a crash at least you’ve ruled out the GPU as the source of the problem.

Have you removed the card and dusted it? lil unreleated tip here for ya too.. if ya fan is making noise, clean it, but dont use like gay oil on it or WD40.. use Sewing Machine Oil! tiz vair good

hehe… well I would try to give it a clean, but it is locked in place with some metal thing which I cant undo… bloody mesh!
I didnt get time to try out the onboard graphics last night… would I have to disable the card in the bios or something first – as I couldnt see how to do that, and there is no way I can see that I can take the card out…

Ok… well i tried to but the (please excuse the lamens terms here) blue port on my graphics card is the same shape, but has a different pin configeration than the blue port on my onboard graphics card…
I have an ASUS SK8V mobo btw and a 9800XT… is this just a cabling issue, or am i being silly?
I have told mesh, and they need to pick it up, which wll probably take an age. If this onboard thing doesnt work, will sticking in an old (but working!) ATI graphics card do the business? … If so I would need to aquire one from somewhere first…

You’re just being silly, there’s only one type of VGA port. Are you sure you’re not talking about a serial port? They’re the same shape but different layout than a VGA port.

You probably need to enable the onboard graphics and take the card out.
