So I bought a Radeon X1950XTX AGP as a short term hold over until I did the full upgrade to Core2Duo and PCI-E.

Had it running since October last year and then 2 weeks ago it booted up with corrupted screen and was essentially useless!

So since I had a bit of money this time round, bought a load of bits including new motherboard, hdd, dvd and mouse along with a nice new POV GF8800GT 512mb PCI-E gfx card to replace it.

Got that stuff and installed it all, running ok, and load some games up and I notice straight away this new card is running at 78’c in windows!!! Run a game and it averages around 100’c and peaks over 115’c! and tends to randomly crash!

Old Radeon ran at 38’c in windows and 65’c in game.

So returning both gfx cards to ebuyer.com where I bought them from (£130 ATI, £110 NVIDIA)

Now they delivered all these things to my work address fine, dam citylink were to come today to colllect these cards to take back with them, but gets to 5pm and I am wondering where they are!, So call ebuyer.com and they say the driver couldnt find the place! I said, but he managed to deliver the goods! she is puzzled!

Now have to wait until thursday for collection, and then 4 working days for them to test the cards and make sure they are faulty! Thats end of next week!

The ATI card is no longer made so she reckoned it would be a refund job (no probs there dont want another one as its AGP!) and they dont have stock of the NVIDIA card which I would like a straight replacement for!

So got to find another GF8800GT to get. Best bet looks the Asus one as it does not have the stock heatsink/cooler on it, but more expensive at £144.
Alternatively there is the EVGA card which is £140 and looks to be stock reference design, but have a very good reputation for making decent cards and have very good aftersales support I am told.

I am not going to buy any of the GF9 cards as looking on Toms hardware they are GF8’s really and nothing really special for the way higher prices!

One possibility is to get another GF8800GT and buy the Logitech G25 wheel as my Logitech DFP wheel is nearing the end of its life with calibration probs and some buttons no longer working! Mind its done my well for 3 years now! That would come out at around £290 so would need another £50, shame I cannot get another well known make of gfx card for around £100 lol.

BFG are supposed to be one of the best brands of Nvidia cards am I right?

The 10 year warranty looks good on it, although the card looks the same as the POV one, but this is overclocked by the looks of it.

What are overclockers like? I have never bought anything from them, always been ebuyer who are faultless so far (see how this return goes)

And also it depends if I get a refund to my bank account or whether its a credit onto my ebuyer account.

aye overclockers are kool.. I’d sooner buy from them than cheaper Scan.. Only issues I’ve had with Scan is when they treat you like a fooking noob, some spotty oik trying to tell me whats what about burning, yeah verbatims are the best, but they also come with a rather large price tag, I’ll take the cheap make thanks, but these are better.. yes but if I have them, I’ll have to panda your eyes… hmm sounds like I should have got the verbs

Had to put him right in his place n all, probably working with pooters before he was born, a right bunch of ciserable munts too.. like F’in drones, and always a queue grrr!

    Ah well!

Both cards were found faulty and I have been refunded for both of them.

Bought a Zotak GF8800GT 512MB for £99 from ebuyer to replace them.

Great card! silient and cool, runs at 700/1700/2000 at 60’c in game 🙂
