just got this today.
After carefully removing the genuine bit of the berlin wall that comes with the game (i kid you not) i got well into it.
the sheer number of troops/planes /tanks/explosions is astounding. the game quite simply looks stunning.
the cut scenes/ general story are very well done – better than most rts’s.
not 100% sure about gameplay yet – its all a bit hectic and i havent seen the opportunities for tactical finesse that COH gives you.
8/10 so far – may get better though when i get some nukes!
September 24, 2007 at 10:36 pm #59040TurksMeisterParticipantIve played the demo and not sure – I dont think I will be able to conemplace the sheer number of troops on the map at once…
Looks pretty though.
September 25, 2007 at 6:44 am #59041XDCiNSANEParticipantHave to agree with turks.. it was a lil overkill with the troops etc
beautiful looking game though
September 25, 2007 at 7:58 am #59042xdc the docParticipantApparently the multiplayer is very good… though my lack of a connection makes that a bit useless just now. The game comes with a disc of the the game to install as multiplayer only with a CD key that is valid for 10 days – im not sure if you can get the same thing off the net, but if not Id be happy to post it to someone so they can try before they buy.
God the explosions are soooo good. Artillery finally looks realistic.
September 25, 2007 at 8:41 am #59043sickofitallParticipantI downloaded the demo. The fact that I can just quote from my post on CoH and it applies all over again pretty much sums it up.

Here’s my experience of these RTS games.
Step 1 – the tutorial
“If you draw a box round your 2 units you can control them both at once! Isn’t that AMAZING! Try it now, don’t worry if it takes you a few tries – I’ll wait for you to get it.”
Wow cheers, I’m really hoping you will because I’m not convinced I can manage that in one go. I might have to order me some kind of helper chimp to get me through this bit. Still, cross your fingers for me would you. It’s a long shot, but I might just pull it off…
“Well done! Now, with your units selected you can right click on those bad men over there and (this is the good bit) your men will go over there and automatically fight them! That’s right! And you can watch! Don’t worry about having to shoot or help out, the computer does that bit for you.”
Well that’s it. Drawing the box round my units had me in palpitations as it is but there’s only so much I can take. Even that dream I had last night where Salma Hayek and Kate Beckinsale were going at the old general like a couple of pigs at a tatty whilst being whipped on their bare arses by that bird with the big norks who does the weather couldn’t have prepared me for the hair raising exhilaration that is the white knuckle ride known as “Company of Heroes”. I’m going to have to turn you off now, this game is far too challenging for me.
“Don’t worry if you’re having problems right clicking on the bad men, just keep trying. You’ll get it eventually.”
No really, don’t. I don’t think I could face doing that. What if they actually do as you say and start fighting? That would be too much for my tiny mind to take, surely?
“Don’t worry if you’re still having problems right clicking on the bad men, just keep trying. You’ll get it eventually.”
No, no. I’m just not up to this. I prefer a quiet life thank you. I think I’ll have to do something a bit less exciting like say, lion taming. Or something slightly less cerebrally challenging like reproducing nuclear fusion in a cardboard box. You know, something more within the limits of my own mind.
Either that, or I’ll just have a quick wank.
“Don’t worry if you’re having problems right clicking on the bad…”
ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO QUIT? (Y/N)
Y
*edit* It’s also worth pointing out that thanks to heartless bastards like Doc some OAP in Scunthorpe woke up last week to find her garden wall had been nicked. She’ll probably have to pay for it to be replaced and be so skint she dies of hypothermia this Christmas. Hope you can live with yourself, Doc.
Genuine piece of the Berlin wall! I don’t know lad, give your head a shake!
September 25, 2007 at 10:50 am #59044TurksMeisterParticipantIm not convinced by this at all… the graphics are great, but the game play’s gash.
September 25, 2007 at 8:16 pm #59045XDCJuDgE-MenTaLParticipantSOIA, just a suggestion but why not skip the tutorial?just like binning the manual when you buy a new DVD Recorder much better to press everything and swear lots.
I wonder if L** *****y read the manual when he got his Bri***a Ba*** v*br****g p**** or n*b enl****er?
September 25, 2007 at 8:33 pm #59046XDCiNSANEParticipant😆 😆

September 26, 2007 at 1:48 pm #59049xdc the docParticipantIt is a genuine bit of berlin wall… its got graffiti on it and everything! 😀
Just holding it takes me back in time to when David Hasselhof single handedly reunited Germany after his iconic performance on it in 1989…. now of only this game allowed you to drop a nuke on the hoff mid concert… that would be pure gold!
Maybe in a mod 🙂
I am now halfway through the game and it is growing on me. Not a COH beater, but Ive not yet tired of dropping heavy ordnance on the ruskies. Would love to play it online with Spunker to see how it compares… are you getting it m8? I MIGHT have broadband within a month 😯
September 26, 2007 at 2:19 pm #59050XDCsPUNKerParticipantgot an *ahem* copy and am half way through now. Can be rather confusing at the best of times. Still not completely won over but I may go ahead and get it as I did with COH just ask me again either next week or tomorrow as I’m breezing along.
Anyway more important to save the pennies for Opposing Y fronts which should be out pretty soonOctober 2, 2007 at 10:30 am #59051xdc the docParticipantUpdate time!
This game has grown on me… the cut seens/ whole storyline are considerably better quality than I am used to in games like this. Now that i have got used to the different units involved i am much more impressed with tactical play – theres some interesting decisions to be made as to the make up of your forces/where to drop them in… with a minimum of micromanagement once you get into the battles.
The single player game seems very geared up to making you a competent online player… different missions focusing on the 4 different online roles that you can play as.
I am desperate to play online now…. goddamn broadband woes ar egetting me down.
8.5/10 I’d say – well worth the cash.
I am on the last mission now…. so hopefully have a review of giants citixen kabuto soon 🙂
October 2, 2007 at 1:34 pm #59052XDCsPUNKerParticipantfinished the SP on friday and am looking into grabbing a copy on Amazon but I’ll wait untill there are a few more second hand ones as looks like you wont be around for awhile. By the last mission I’d got it pretty well organized although it was still chaotic in places
