This seed may fall on barren ground… but I just saw the best surf movie ever – Zen and Zero.
Stay with me… its less about surfing than about travelling on the road. I reckon it would be quite accessible to people who dont know a rail from a rocker.
Basically some guys from Austria (land locked country of course) decide to improve their surfing on a road trip from LA to Costa Rica. Very well shot, lots of gonzo philosophy that actually hits the mark sometimes… and of course some excellent footage of surfers getting wacked on the head by several tons of water (some superb shots from puerto escondidio in Mexico that will really make you wince.)
They made it on a shoe string budget – but very cleverly (they got some aerial footage by strapping a camera to a remote controlled plane and making it buzz over some surfers heads 🙂 )
